  1. Stormwater Pumps for Sale Australia | Pumps2You Before you purchase a stormwater pump, you need to know what exactly you require the pump to do. As when it comes to stormwater pumps, the selection of the correct pump is critical. With one of the biggest reasons, pumps fail to due to incorrect selection at the moment of purchase. Not only does it mean that you will need to purchase another pump, but if you do realise your error soon enough, they tend to become a very expensive mistake. The main questions you need to know the answer to are; what type of water is needing to be dealt with, and where does it need to be moved to? You can start to answer these questions by looking at the elevation change, along with the distance and the flow. As the strength of the pump will be determined by the change in elevation, as the pump will need to generate enough pressure to negate the effects of gravity. While the distance needed to move the fluids is also crucial, as the pump doesn't just need to overcome gravity but also be able to push the fluid the entire distance.

  2. The flow created will be used to determine the correct line size. With the flow running at optimal conditions it will avoid the fluid flowing in a flat manner, which is known as laminar flow. As mentioned earlier the type of water that will need to be moved is also an important consideration, where if the pump will be dealing with water from a storm, then it may need to be able to cope with solids that may be present in the water.

  3. Other considerations to take into account when looking at purchasing a stormwater pump are; Ensuring that the correct size and power of the pump are being used. As if there is too much horsepower however not enough flow, this can then produce a rattle that could eventually cause the pump to become loose and fall apart. Using the correct sized hose is just as important as using the correct sized pump. If you choose a discharge hose it can lower friction loss, but this will also greatly depend on the distance the liquid will need to travel. A commonly accepted rule is for anything below 300m, it is acceptable to use the same sized line as the pump. However, for everything over 300m, it is advised to use the next largest sized hose or pipe as the pump is fitted with. As with any device with a motor, if the pump is made to run too hard for too long there will more than likely be problems. Each pump does have an ideal range that it will work at, where consistently of the rpm’s, will result in more efficient fuel consumption, and keep maintenance on a much more regular basis.
