  1. 60th Hadron Synchrotron Incoherent effects section meeting September 6th, 2019

  2. Agenda Information and Round Table HSI section meeting

  3. SLM • Feedback on the Fermilab experiment given during the SLM. • Focus on a few interesting items (IPM, correction of SC with resonances) and plan for contribution of FNAL colleagues to LIU commissioning • APT has been updated up to 2026 • Document the results of the PSB space charge studies in a note • Note on beam-beam incoherent effects for HL-LHC. The results of the last parameter set provided by Nikos should be also included • Action on whether MAD-X or PATH files are produced: Layout will be extracted from the layout database and compared with PATH files. MAD-X file will be then generated and stored in the optics repository • Access during the Open Days: anyone (except volunteers) who needs access for operations or for the organization of the open days, need to provide names + car plates to A. Valenza who is collecting information for the group (done) • Inform Alessia about possible interested participants to the Structures Laser Beam meeting taking place on September 11th HSI section meeting

  4. BEMB • IC vacancy notices open until last Friday 30/8 midday • Safety: Somebody cut his finger and required two stitches and drove to the hospital alone. The fire brigade should be called in such cases. Tiles falling in an office in building 6. Accident form sent. SMB to look at the status of the tiles in the buildings. Reminder about woodworms and windows insulation to Space Officer • SPS RF solid state amplifier working well.Issues with the ELENA source insulation transformer (Christian checing with EPC and ABT) • MTP savings discussion • ED on staff allocations during last week • Recommendations for CO3 will be documented in ECRs for approval (including necessary resources) • Procurement report: Some countries are very low in industrial return. • Transfer of one ABP staff to OP as LINAC4 EiC HSI section meeting

  5. Staff Association • Elections during fall 2019, new candidates are welcome. • Become a delegate by joining the Staff Association if you are not a member yet. 2. • Send the completed and signed application form to Staff.Association@cern.ch before Friday, October 11 at noon. • Staff Association survey  launched on the 26th of August • Conducted by the Institute of Demography and Socioeconomics of the University of Geneva – IDESO • Addressed to the MPEs (staff and fellows), in order to collect opinions in view of the five-year review.  • Answers to survey are strictly anonymous and confidential  (no access to the raw data by anyone at CERN). • Results will be communicated to the SA, and then shared with staff • Encourage  staff/fellows to participate by filling this survey. HSI section meeting

  6. LMC • LS2 status (M. Bernardini) • AOB: update on proposal for treating non-conformity in ROD.A56B1 (A. Verweij, M. Bednarek): An optimised intervention is proposed with one + two magnet lost (good chances that last two are saved). • Decision on replacing the ACS RF module (F. Gerigk): Although contamination risk low, actual status cannot be assessed until high-power tests of next year. It will be hard to organise the exchange of the RF module, due to other activities and to ensure that a working spare will be available for LHC. • Update on MKD contact degradation following tests in bld. 867 (V. Senaj): Contact erosion has been observed. Short- and long-term solutions have been devised and tested The short-term solution has been tested. Still some erosion was found, probably due to insufficient contact force but situation should be fine for Run 3. • Outcome of the DISMAC QA review (L. Tavian) • ECR and ES update - including SMOG2 and 11T dipole (S. Chemli) • SMOG2 ECR has been approved: the new system will be installed, but operation with gases should be still discussed in detail. • 11 T dipole ECR has been approved. • LS2 Days will be held on 8-9 October. HSI section meeting

  7. IEFC INTC Summary: nTOF (O. Aberle): Renovation of some old equipment (sweeping magnet, SEM grid), New target for nToF. Dismantling of the existing target ongoing. Upgrade of the nToF electronics laboratory Summary Consolidation Day (M. Lamont): Consolidation requirements up to LS3 included (LS2 not included except for variations with respect to the plans). All information now in APT now. Big spending in 2018/19 as planned. Corresponding with Cumulative Budget Deficit over-run. This led to emergency measures (fellow cut). CONS cut by 1.5 MCHF/year. In particular MPA. Scrutiny of the fellow requests. 22 MCHF/year in the period 2021-2026 (to be compared with 28 MCHF/year in the period 2014-2018. Largest requests from CV/EL and EPC. There is already an upgrade plan for POPS (POPS+ to improve redundancy). Fellow request have been left out from the Priority 1 requests.70 MCHF are missing in the period up to 2025 to cover Priority 1 requests (already assuming delay of LS3 by one year). 2021 budget and requests being reviewed. Review of the risk assessment and cost-benefit analysis including reliability data. Return on Investment should be included too.  Outcome of the NACONS Safety review (E. Gschwendtner): North Area Consolidation safety review took place in June 2019 in view of the more general North Area Consolidation plans. The review included cost and schedule. The present plan is consolidation in two phases by 2030 for a total of 17.7 MCHF Report on CLEAR RP VETO issue (R. Nunes): Temporary solution in place. ECR to be issued with the necessary modifications HSI section meeting

  8. Space charge Capstone meeting at FNAL, IPM data interesting, FNAL operation wishing to send two people for LIU commissioning Gianni worked on frozen SC in SIXTRACKlib by Hannes, benchmarking done for SIS20 with Haroon Haroon MD PS close to the integer work with simulations, injection bump, Tirsi thesis corrected by Fanouria, present this in September, working on documentation. Alignment for PSB (sign errors found), discussion with alignment team and Meghan Giuliano visited end of August IBS tracking module in python, kinetic analysis for IBS, diffusion and friction term (a la Foker-Planck – MOCAC) Discussion with Michele on SPS non-linear model and a3 CC measurements SC workshop organization on-going linac colleagues informed HIS section meeting

  9. Beam-Beam and Lumi DA with CC errors and beam-beam for HL-LHC (Emilia) Iteration with team on HL-LHC intensity measurement requirements, Ilias presentation during this LPC Wire compensation satellite meeting during HL-LHC collaboration meeting at FNAL being organized. Gianluigi asked Gianni for WP2 presentation on bbb noise, Nikos for chroma vs octuple at injection (and coupling) and Stefania for lumi model HSI section meeting

  10. Activities • CAS and teaching • Discussion on CAS proceedings and future schools (Turkey) • FCCee, CLIC, Low emittance rings • Ozgur checking 16GeV energy at extraction IBS  • Prepared a draft proposal for the extension of low emittance ring network within ARIES2. Prepared a draft, for a collaboration with CIEMAT, Elettra and Kyma for the longitudinal variable bend • Request to finance a HTS wiggler project between CERN and KIT (CLIC and FCC) HSI section meeting
