  1. Intelligent Transport Systems Presenter: Soeren Hess Chairman ETSI TC ITS Global Standards Collaboration (GSC) GSC-15

  2. Highlight of Current Activities (1) • Standards and technical specification adopted • ITS Communication Architecture • Application requirements and facilities • Transport protocols/GeoNetworking • European profile standard 5G • Security and privacy • (TVRA and security architecture) • Conformance testing • Interoperability tests • Possible new access technology

  3. Highlight of Current Activities (2) • EC Mandate on standardization for cooperative ITS • 68 standards (European Norms) to be developed • Cooperation between CEN and ETSI • Close contacts with stakeholders • To be finalized end 2012 • Part of ITS action plan and ITS Directive towards deployment • Close cooperation with ISO – IEEE – IETF and national standards organizations • EU-US-Japan cooperation • Harmonized ITS standards and applications • Data exchange for tests and demonstrations

  4. Strategic Direction • Stakeholder influence • Automotive industry – Road authorities – public operators • Vehicle safety – traffic efficiency – Sustainability applications • Standards needed for FOTs and deployment • Public private partnership towards deployment • Global interoperability • Globally harmonized standards • Ongoing cooperation between SDOs • Timely availability of standards • Standards to meet policy objectives for deployment

  5. Challenges • Alignment of standardization activities world wide • Avoid conflicting standards • Avoid double work and resource dilution • Partnership projects between standards organizations • Stakeholder interests not aligned • Automotive – suppliers – traffic management organizations • Partnership projects necessary • New technologies may improve deployment opportunities and standardization needs • Availability of access networks • Security

  6. Next Steps/Actions • Finalization of base standards in accordance with EC Mandate • Conformance and interoperability tests • Field Operational Tests influencing standardization • Identify next set of standards to be developed • Application standards and harmonized message sets • Local Dynamic Maps • Security and privacy issues • Alignment of standardization with ITS policy directives
