  3. Martha’s Childhood • She was born on a plantation near Williamsburg, Virginia on June 2nd,1731. • She liked to ride horses, take care of her garden, sew, play the spinet, and dance. • She stayed in the Dandridge home in Chestnut Grove.

  4. Martha Gets Married • When Martha was 18, she married Daniel Parke Custis. • They had four children total, but two died in infancy. • Her husband, Daniel died after a brief illness.

  5. Martha Meets George Washington • Martha was at a cotillion in Williamsburg and met a young colonel named George Washington. • Martha fell in love with George. • George found her quite attractive. • George and Martha got married on January 6th, 1759.

  6. George Washington Becomes President • They hired a tutor for their children, Jacky, and Patsy. • George Washington became the Commander-in-Chief. • Then, George becomes President of the United States of America.
