  2. Environmental Inequity (EQ) • Refers to the unequal protection of environmental policies, laws or regulations. Reference: Bryant, B. (1995). Environmental Justice: Issues, Policies, and Solutions. Covelo: Island Press. Laws should be enforced equally to ensure proper siting, clean-up of hazardous wastes, and effective regulation regardless of racial and economic composition of the community in question.

Environmental Justice (EJ) • Focuses on improving the overall quality of life for communities of color and/or low socio-economic status. • Refers to cultural norms and values, rules, behaviors, policies, and decisions to support sustainable communities. • A sustainable community is one in which people can interact with confidence that their community is safe, nurturing, and productive. • EJ is served when people can realize and achieve their highest potential, and the cultural diversity is respected.
