Categories • Preservative • Maintain the health of the facial skin by cleansing correctly, increasing circulation, relaxing the nerves & activating the skin glands & metabolism through massage • Corrective • Correct some facial skin conditions, such as dryness, oiliness, comedones, aging lines & minor conditions of acne

  4. Facials Treatments • Facial massage treatments help: • To increase circulation • Activate glandular activity • Relax the nerves • Maintain muscle tone • Strengthen weak muscle tissues

Guidelines • Help the client to relax by speaking in a quiet & professional manner • Explain the benefits of the products & service & answer any questions the client may have • Provide a quiet atmosphere & work quietly & efficiently • Maintain neat, clean, sanitary conditions in the facial work area with an orderly arrangement of supplies

  6. Guidelines • Follow systematic procedures • If your hands are cold, warm them before touching the client’s face • Keep your nails smooth & short so as not to scratch the client’s skin

  7. Guidelines • Perform an analysis on your client’s skin • Determine whether it is dry, normal or oily, • If fine lines or creases exist • If blackheads or acne are present • If dilated capillaries are visible • If the skin texture is smooth or rough • If the skin color is even

Special problems • Dry skin • Insufficient flow of sebum (oil) from the sebaceous gland • Oily skin & blackheads • Hardened masses of sebum formed in the ducts of the sebaceous glands • Acne • Disorder of the sebaceous glands • Requires medical treatment sometimes, and the cosmetologist will work closely with the client’s physician • Cleansing the skin, reducing the oiliness , removing blackheads,& using special medicated preparations • Gloves must be worn

Aromatherapy • Therapeutic use of essential oils • Dates back to 2000 BC • Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, & Romans all used oils derived from plants • Many purposes, including healing, perfumes, hypnosis & meditation • Today use of essential oils can enhance a person’s physical, emotional, mental & spiritual well-being • Specific benefits create positive effects on the body, mind and spirit

Aromatherapy • Essential oils can be used in a variety of ways • Lighting a cinnamon candle in the winter can give the salon a cozy feeling & cheer up both client’s & yourself • You can create your own aromatherapy massage oil by adding a few drops of essential oil into basic massage oil, cream or lotion

Aromatherapy • Aromatherapy is a healing method that should not be used on clients without proper training • It requires in-depth study of plants, essential oils,& the chemistry of those oils, as well as sound knowledge of human anatomy and physiology • A cosmetologist must not attempt to perform healing treatments with aromatherapy
