The Math Club meets every Wednesday from 4-5 PM. Ensure prompt pickup at 5 PM, or register for The Cove Academy if needed. Registration forms must be submitted by September 17th to participate in various competitions like AMC 8, AMC 10, Math Olympiad, and more. Enjoy team challenges and work towards earning points in competitions. Standout students can qualify for advanced contests. Meetings • Scheduled for Wednesday afternoons from 4-5PM • You must be picked up promptly at 5:00. • Please take a minute to call or text your parents if necessary. • If you cannot be picked up at 5:00, you will need to register for The Cove Academy.

Teams are chosen based on performance in the club. The points you earn during each competition will add up to your overall score.
AMC 8 • Competition date: • Tuesday November, 18th • You MUST register to take this exam no later than October 1st (form on website) • Registration forms received after October 1st will be placed on a waiting list in order of receipt. • All students who are younger than 14.5 years old on November 18th are eligible to participate.
AMC 10 – New to Falcon Cove this year • February – date TBA • Students who are older than 14.5 on Nov. 18th are eligible for the AMC 10 (not the AMC 8) • Younger students who earn at least a 20 out of 25 on the AMC 8 are eligible to participate in the AMC 10
Math Olympiad • Two teams this year of up to 35 students • 6th graders will be on one team • 7th and 8th graders will be on a separate team • Competition dates: • Wednesday, November 19th • Wednesday, December 17h • Wednesday, January 14th • Wednesday, February 11th • Wednesday, March 11th
Sample Question • How many quarters (worth 25 cents each) must be added to 12 nickels (worth 5 cents each), so that the average value of a coin in the new enlarged collection is 10 cents? • Answer: 4 quarters
Math Counts • Club information: • Last year we became a gold school for the thirdyear in a row. • Silver Status – earned by having a minimum number of meetings and students attend (easy) • Gold Status – This year’s challenge is to create puzzles and games. More info coming soon. • Competition Dates: • Chapter Competition in February • State Competition in March • National Competition in May – Boston, MA

Mu Alpha Theta • High school honor society • ONLY students enrolled in a HIGH SCHOOL math course are eligible to participate. (GEM 7, GEM 8, Algebra, etc.) • Hiller/Nunn Contest – Wednesday, Dec. 3rd • Upcoming competitions: • Jan. 31 – Regionals – Braddock HS, Miami • Feb. 14th – Regionals – Ferguson HS, Miami • Mar. 7th – Regionals – FAU, Davie • Mar. 21st – Cypress Bay Statewide (this is a Saturday during spring break) • Must work ahead in text book to be prepared for competitions. • ***Practice old tests at www.famat.org***
