Monday, September 30, 2013 &Tuesday, October 1, 2013- OL • I can… identify the elements of a Hero’s Journey in literary text. • Do Now: KNOWSYS #5- Quiz Friday!/Update ISNs • Application: “Hero’s Journey” • Analyze the Hero’s Journey in “Jack the Giant Slayer.” • HOTS: Analyze the journey a movie hero took. Which parts of the Hero‘s Journey are there? What is missing?

Wednesday-Friday, October 2-4, 2013- OL • I can… write an original short story using the elements of the Hero’s Journey. • Do Now: KNOWSYS #5- Quiz Friday! • Writing: Use the writing process to plan, draft, revise, and edit a hero’s journey story. • Brainstorm story elements (for each step of the Hero’s Journey). • Pre-writing & Planning: Create 4 charts to map out your story • Drafting- Draft the story. Make the story coherent/make sense. Type it using the AlphaSmart and the File # assigned to you.

Monday, September 30, 2013 - Pre-AP • I can… write an original short story using the elements of the Hero’s Journey. • Do Now: KNOWSYS #5- Quiz Friday!/Update ISNs/Turn in homework (“Sir Gawain” chart) • Step One: Brainstorm & Vote on class story: • Characters: Hero, Mentor, Allies/Enemies, etc. • Setting/Situation: Futuristic/Under the Sea/Present Day/Etc. • Conflict/Solution: What is the problem and what do we want the outcome to be.

Tuesday, October 1, 2013- Pre-AP • I can… write an original short story using the elements of the Hero’s Journey. • Do Now: KNOWSYS #5- Quiz Friday!/ • Step Two: Story Groups- 1 per step in the Hero’s Journey. • Assign parts: 1 per step of the Hero’s Journey • Seating: Groups sit in order of the Hero’s Journey. • Drafting: Groups to work on their parts for at least 30-45 min. in order to develop the plot and their part of the journey.

Wednesday, October 2, 2013- Pre-AP • I can… write an original short story using the elements of the Hero’s Journey. • Do Now: KNOWSYS #5- Quiz Friday!/ • ROUGH DRAFT: (1 daily grade) • Step Three: Drafting: Sit in a large circle around the room with partners, in order of the journey. • Draft in sequence: Groups read out the parts that they’ve created& peers give constructive feedback. • Feedback: No negative comments/just fix the glitches.

Thursday & Friday , October 3-4, 2013- Pre-AP • I can… write an original short story using the elements of the Hero’s Journey. • Do Now: KNOWSYS #5- Quiz Friday!/ • ROUGH DRAFT: (1 daily grade) • Step Three: Drafting & Typing : Sit in a large circle around the room with partners, in order of the journey. • Assign a class leader: keep everyone on track and moving forward. • Revisions: Discuss changes and debating on ideas/wording/etc: STAY ON TRACK. • Assign a class typist: Open a word document and project it onto the board. Pause & reflect after each step. Correct as we go.
