  2. Speaking Warm-up • Think of as many social problems in China as you can • For example: pollution, theft, etc

  3. Main Social Problems in America • Drugs • Gangs • Illegal Immigrants • Racism/Discrimination • Gun crime • Debt • Broken Families • Religious Intolerance • Education • Alcohol Abuse • Sex Crimes

  4. Guns in America • The 2nd Amendment: “A well regulated militia (民兵) being necessary to the security of a free State, the right (权) of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed (侵犯).”

  5. Brainstorming Activity • In groups of 2-3, think of reasons why people might want to own or use a gun • Think of at least 3 reasons • For each reason, give your opinion whether you think it is generally a good reason or a bad reason to want to own a gun • Finally, answer this question: Is gun ownership generally good or bad for a society?

  6. What are guns used for in America or why do people want to own guns? • Crime (murder, robbery) • Hunting • Collecting • Performances • Personal Protection • Target Shooting • Social Shooting (Skeet) • Investment • To be cool • Family Legacy

  7. A Gun show... A gun show is a temporaryexhibition or gathering where firearms, firearm accessories, ammunition (bullets), literature, knives, and other collectibles are displayed, bought, sold, traded, and discussed.

  8. Your job during this presentation: • Think of at least one question to ask related to the topics in this presentation. • Write your question down and hand it in at the end of the presentation.

  9. A gun show is usually on a weekend -- Saturday and Sunday.

  10. A gun show is often held in a public building such as a hotel or expo center or mall

  11. Gun shows are open to the public and usually one must pay a small fee to enter

  12. Gun Laws • There are federal (national) gun laws, but the States each have their own gun laws that the citizens in that state must obey

  13. Tennessee Gun Laws • You do not need a state permit to buy a gun • You do not need to have a license to use a gun

  14. You do not need to register a gun

  15. Minors (under 18 yrs old) cannot own handguns unless the guns are for hunting, sport shooting, or other legal gun activities

  16. To buy a handgun, you must give your current identification, and give a thumbprint for a criminal history record check, and sign the transaction record.
