The philosophy of the rules • My statement: A thorough understanding of the rules and the philosophy behind these enables you to perform more consistent due to enhanced awareness and judgement skills which in time supports the development of the game of hockey. Increased consistency will earn you a higher degree of respect and acknowledgement on the ice from all participants

The philosophy of the rules • Which philosophies exist when adding rules to the rulebook: • Games must be played in a safe and fair environment • Injuries must be kept to a minimum • Avoid unneccesary delays during the game and minimize stoppages • Reestablish chances for players who has been illegally put out of play • Allow skilled players to show their talent • Allow players to have fun • Make the game exiting and interesting for the spectators • Keeping the spirit of hockey
