  1. Feasibility Study forStripping Test along L4TLine(Beam Dynamics) Veliko Dimov 23.04.2013

  2. Outline • Summary of previous meeting (L4-BCC038) about stripping test along L4Z. • Feasibility study for stripping test along L4T line (beam dynamics). • Conclusion & suggestions.

  3. Injection Scheme L4PSB

  4. Option 1: InstallingOnly Stripping Foil Unit • Requires about 20 cm of free space along the beam line

  5. Option 1: InstallingOnly Stripping Foil Unit

  6. Option 2: Installing Stripping Foil Unit with two Chicane Magnets • Requires about 1.3m of space along the beam line. Ref: L4-T-EP-0002 rev 1.0

  7. Option 2: Installing Stripping Foil Unit with two Chicane Magnets

  8. Option 2: Installing Stripping Foil Unit with two Chicane Magnets • Bending angle at PSB injection: 66mrad gives around 45 mm offset of the proton beam. • Beam pipe radius is 50mm. • Possibility of hitting the beam pipe and missing the dump!!!

  9. L4T

  10. L4T • 10 quadrupole and 3 bending magnets before the debuncher cavity. Debucher

  11. Advantage of having the test along the L4T line Along L4Z • Along the L4T, a movable dump can be aligned according to the proton beam. Along L4T

  12. Objective of the simulations • H- beam from L4 should fit inside the stripping foil. • H0 and H- beams after stripping should fit inside the monitors in front of the internal dump. • Proton beam after stripping must be transported to dump safely.

  13. Beam size along L4T • No loss along the L4T. • Parallel beam on the stripping foil (important for transporting the beam to the dump after stripping). • Smaller size on horizontal plane (compatible with the foil & screen sizes).

  14. Beam size along L4T • There is no significant growth in beam size (even in 10m after the foil) Foil

  15. Spot size on the foil • The 99 per cent beam size on the stripping foil is x=±6mm, y = ±10mm • Because beam size does not change rapidly, this is also the beam spot size on the H0&H- monitors.

  16. Spot size on the foil can be changed

  17. Conclusion and suggestions • From beam dynamics point of view, a measurement bench can be installed at the position of debuncher cavity along the L4T. • It may be a good idea to install two quadrupole magnets between the test bench and the movable dump. They may be necessary if the beam size is changed on the stripping foil.
