Topless makes him seem venerable • Could be a references to slaves in the US who didn’t wear shirts • Clearly showing off his skin colour – pride • Trousers are in the style of US confederate uniforms – adds to theme of racism • His dance style – influences from African dances – links to apartheid in south Africa • Jim Crow – references in body language highlights issues of racial segregation – intertextual references

  4. The audience and Gambino don’t see the bag being put on his head – dehumanises man • Don’t care who their killing • Being shot from behind is dishonerable

  13. Gambino running away from white police men reflects the issues in America with police violence • He is on his own running away suggests that black people feel alone when police are attacking them

  14. Gambino running references how slaves had to run away to save their lives • Running towards light could connote death
