  3. Rhyme Scheme • The rhyme scheme of this poem is ABAAB “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,(A)        And sorry I could not travel both (B)       And be one traveler, long I stood (A)        And looked down one as far as I could(A)        To where it bent in the undergrowth” (B)

  4. Rhythm Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, The rhythm of this poem is iambic tetrameter. Each line consists of nine syllables and four feet. The first three feet are iambs, whereas the last foot is an anapest.

  5. Poetic Devices • Frost’s detailed descriptions of the woods create a clear picture that every reader can visualize. • Examples of imagery: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood…” “…Because it was grassy and wanted wear…” “…In leaves no step had trodden black…”

  6. Figurative Language • The entire poem is a metaphor for making a decision. “…I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference…”
