ADB – Key Points Project: Strengthening local CCI along the EWEC to Trade, Investment and Value Chains (USD 600.000) • Presentation • Outputs will be a • training program related to trade & investment promotion • Action plans: integration of SMEs & the establishment of cross-border production clusters • Dissemination of value-chain related information • Trade forum • Crucial for success: Active participation of all stakeholders • Programs must be complimentary and use synergies Christian Ksoll, 16 Nov 2010

UNESCAP – Key Points Project: Business for Development: Capacity Building of SMEs in the GMS for their effective penetration into regional and global markets (USD 440.000) • Presentation • Case study • Establishment of the Mekong GVC Working Group • Organization of a subregional workshop to inaugurate a working group • Sectors are still to be determined • Development of sector plans, subregional work program & implementation • Discussion • The establishment of clusters could be further explored - reap benefits from comparative advantage • Domestic value chains • Inclusion of other stakeholders such as regional governments • Greater focus on action rather than theories Christian Ksoll, 16 Nov 2010

Mekong Institute – Key Points Project: Enhancing Provincial and Local CCI Capacities in Trade and Investment Facilitation along the EWEC (USD 600.000) • Presentation • The project is based on a needs assessment study of CCI and Business associations conducted along EWEC. Most important needs are: • Increase the knowledge and information in terms of trade and investment promotion • Improve language skills • Enhance the financial situation • Discussion • Local capacity building vs. focus on a tool, e.g. a database, etc. • Service industry should be included, e.g. tourism, health care, etc. • Keep the focus on certain sectors • Ensure sustainability Christian Ksoll, 16 Nov 2010

Summary • Total budget of all 3 projects: USD 1.64 million • There are already various meetings • Greater focus is needed on business • Commonalities • Implementation of all 3 programs is done together – cooperation and coordination will be through steering committee • Differences • MI focues on institutional capacity building with directly providing training to CCI and business associations Christian Ksoll, 16 Nov 2010
