  1. What Is An IMSI Treatment And How Does It Work? IMSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Morphologically-Selected Sperm Injection and is used in conjunction with ICSI or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection. The IMSI IVF process involves the assessment of sperm at a much greater digital magnification than ICSI (about 6000x magnification compared with 200x). In a fertility clinic, embryologists look for potential defects within the sperm head, as well as checking for more conventional shape, size and motility abnormalities. Once chosen, the selected sperm is injected into the egg in exactly the same way as for the standard ICSI procedure. Who needs the IMSI fertility procedure? Research has shown that IMSI may have a positive impact in the following cases: Men who have elevated levels of DNA fragmentation When there have been recurrent miscarriages Where implantation hasn’t worked on several occasions following ICSI treatment Where previous embryos have developed poorly Male factor infertility, when there’s a high number of abnormal sperm As IMSI is a selection process, it may not be suitable for samples with extremely low numbers of sperm. What happens after the procedure? Your treatment cycle is exactly the same as for IVF with ICSI, which involves taking IVF drugs for several weeks both to stimulate egg production and prepare your uterus to receive the embryos. Since your treatment plan is individual, the drug dosage and number of visits will depend on how your body responds. The only difference is that fertility doctors, or embryologists use the IMSI magnification process in the laboratory to select the sperm with fewest defects for the ICSI technique with the aim of improving your chances of conceiving, using micromanipulation techniques in the laboratory to fertilise your eggs, instead of placing sperm and eggs together in a tissue culture dish as in conventional IVF procedure. The best IVF centres in India can be found in Delhi, which is a sort of hub of infertility treatment in India.
