Ned Kelly Ned Kelly is an Irish Australian bushranger. He was well known for being a member of the Kelly gang and for wearing a metal plate helmet. Ned Kelly and the rest of the gang robbed many people including the local bank and post office. They also cut the telephone wires and ordered the railway workers to rip up the line. During this day they held over sixty hostages and within nine hours the building was burnt down to the ground. Three members of the Kelly gang died and Ned was arrested enduring bad burn injuries. He was 25 years old when he was hanged on the 11th of November 1880. His last word’s were “Such Is Life.” In 2007 an estimation of at least 22 per cent of Australians had a convict ancestor.
