Transforming Health Care Education: Embracing Person-Centered Approaches

This overview presents significant shifts in health care driven by government initiatives, particularly following the 2009 Federal Stimulus Package. Led by Gaynelle Schmieder, RN, BSN, M.Ed., Curriculum Coordinator and Health and Wellness Education Instructor at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, this initiative aims to create a person-centered learning environment. Key strategies involve engaging students in discussions about their roles, building upon educational levels, and establishing standards for behavior to enhance communication skills in health care settings.
