  5. QM to QM2…….. • Following the change of linear regulators TPS73xx, power distribution scheme and some minor changes required by safest operations (short circuits on cables or components), we are designing new QM UGxx boards with following modifications • replace the TPSxxxx regulators with SEL free LP2989 (UGBS, UGBC, UGFV) • put limiting resistor on Kulites and GP50 power supply lines (UGBS, UGBC) • separate 12V power supply for UGPS and flipper valve (UGFV) • introduce LP2953 regulator to generate 24V for pumps high speed(UGBP) • introduce LP2953 regulator to generate 21V for analog mux(UGBP) • generate 3.3V from 5V VCC • introduce Solid State Fuses (SSF) for short circuit protection on 5V, on each module. • introduce pull-down resistors on Mosfet gates

  19. QM design • Design of control electronics from EM to QM updated after test session in August 2004 • Further modifications were introduced because of gas circuit changes, e.g. 24V to 30V • Radiation test of few components performed at Karlsruhe, May 2005

  20. EM  QM • Change power supply: 24V30V; supply for Kulite, Marotta valves, pumps, heaters • Pumps power supply: 12V directly from DC-DC converter, 24V with step-down circuit 30V24V. • Heaters x CO2, Xe vessels: on/off switches identical to Marotta valves switches • Added Kulite gauges • Dallas T sensors replacing GP-50 T: + n. 2 dedicated links to USCM No basic circuit was modified, i.e. ADC, switches, serial link

  21. UGxx-QM functional testUG-QM modules ready June 15, 2006

  22. UG-QM modules functionality test • Backplane: • Change of power lines • Commichau prescriptions • new QM backplane

  23. UG-QM modules functionality test • Only one major problem with ADC conversion. Cured by changing the conversionstart-readout scheme, FPGA reprogrammed. • Error on Vcc for multiplexer on UGFV. Cured by adding step down circuit 29V  21V.

  24. Components TIM January 2007: components list with several questionable elements • Kounine revised the components list and marks the following ones: • TPS73xx on AMS component list marked as NON-FLIGHT • SUB85N10-10 not on AMS part list • HI-508 not on AMS part list • AD620BR not on AMS part list • G&A provided documents on rad test. The only remaining non flight is TPS73xx

  25. TPS73xx • TPS73xx were selected following the AMS Preferred Part List of 2001, displayed on AMS web page. • In the the updated list of 2003 the TPS73xx are marked NOT flight. • TPS73XX can be replaced by LP2989, latch free. • LP2989 is not pin to pin compatible, therefore needs a new layout and a new PCB

  26. UG modules production schedule • QM1 modules test at CERN. Approval of circuit diagrams. • OK to proceed • Construction new UGxx-QM2 3 months after the OK (functionality test included) • Qualification tests UGxx-QM2  SERMS • Construction UGxx-FM 3 months • Acceptance test UGxx-FM  SERMS • Delivery of UGxx-FM can be reduced to 1 month 1/2 if FM-PCBs are produced at same time of QM2-PCBs

  27. Qualification and acceptance tests Guidelines for the qualification and acceptance tests of the AMS-02 electronics (Notes compiled by G. Ambrosi for the AMS-02 SubDetector Electronic group, September 28th 2005.Feedback, comments and corrections are welcome.) In this short report are summarized the guidelines for the definition of the qualification and acceptance procedure to be implemented for all the box electronics of the AMS--02 experiment. The informations and specifications reported are derived from the discussions within the Sub-Detector Electronics group, from the indications of the CSIST people and from the experience gained with the test of J/JT/JPD crate. The guidelines reported here do apply to the following hardware (for the detailed nomeclature and list look in the Flight Design ): U- , T- , S- , E- ,J- , JT- ,TT- , UG- , M- crate UPD, TPD, TSPD, ERPD, JPD, UGPD, TMPD,SHV, RHV, EHV As a general rule no design modifications are allowed between the QM and FM/FS.

  28. Q & A tests • The tests will be performed at Terni, SERMS facility • Conduction of tests by : Alessandro Bartoloni, Bruno Borgia, Francesca Spada + G&A engineers (R. Bellarosa, M. Tucceri) + Perugia?
