  2. ArcGIS Server Environment • MS Server 2003 • Dual Quad Core 3GHz • 4GB RAM • SOM/SOC on single server • All projects/locators on local drive • All data in SQL

  3. ArcGIS Server Services • Mapping • Base • BaseM • SOR • Schools • AerialPhoto* • Contours* • Geocoding • Point Locator

  4. Cached Services • Aerial Photo • 10 cache levels • 1:600 & doubling up to 1:307200 • JPEG, 75% compression & 512 x 512 • 14GB on disk for approx. 775 sq miles • At least 16 hours to create • Contours • 4 cache levels • 1:600 & doubling up to 1:4800 • PNG, 512 x 512 & anti-aliased • 3GB on disk for approx. 775 sq miles • 5 plus hours to create • Polygon shapefile used for cache extent

  5. ArcGIS Server Applications • Using Freeance Web/Mobile 3rd party software • Internal/Public App • Sex Offender Registry App • School Attendance Areas App • BlackBerry Mapping App

  6. Items we’ve run into • Security for both server and services • Freeance does not support many to one apps • Redo the post-install after server url was assigned • ESRI’s vision for AGS still doesn’t mesh with what our county needs for web mapping

  7. Where we want to go… • Future versions • Create child service groups • Create representations for base layers • Continue to improve the cartographic look • Build application w/out cascading services • Add a layer for hillshade relief • Look into building our own application • Java based? • Leverage the new .msd file type in 9.3.1?

  8. Discussion Topics • What layers do you plan on caching? • How many cache levels are you going to use? • How many layer group levels to use? • Building internally, or purchasing 3rd party? • Project templates for sharing? • Application templates for sharing? • Balance between novice and power users?
