  2. What is a pest? Any organism that • Competes with humans, plants or animals • Injures humans, plants and animals • Transmits diseases • Disturbs humans or domestic animals

  3. Types of pests • Insects like cockroaches, termites • Arthropods like spiders, mites, ticks • Microbes like bacteria • Unwanted plants or weeds • Snails ,slugs… • Rodents like mice and rats

  4. Pest control goals • Prevention: Keeping a pest from becoming a problem • Suppression: Reducing their numbers • Eradication: Destroying entire pest population

  5. Bed Bugs • Found in luggage and clothing • Control: 1.Fumigation 2.Pour boiling water Apply kerosene ,oil, emulsion.

  6. Beetles • Found in cereals, furs, woolens, carpets wood. • Control: Spray area with insecticide powder Frequent vacuuming

  7. Fleas • Found: Empty houses, grass, animals • Control: Insecticide spray

  8. Silver fish • Found: • Paper, old book cases, cotton fabric • Control: Pyrethrum Sodium Fluoride

  9. Cockroaches • Found: Drains , basement, kitchens • Control Cockroach killer preparation

  10. Moths • Found Cloths, Carpets, Kitchens, Granaries. • Control Use synthetic fibers Good sanitation, vacuum cleaning Cleaning and drying areas.

  11. Ants • Found Everywhere, especially near sweets and where food is stored. • Control Borax, Carbon bi Sulphide, pour boiling water

  12. Termites • Found Wood and ground • Control Creosote or sodium arsenate, wax, varnish, pour molten paraffin , Ortho di Chloro benzene, Kerosene, fine wire gauze

  13. Flies • Found Everywhere • Control Burn garbage, Repair pits and fill puddles, cover drains, pour kerosene, use fine wire gauze for protection

  14. Mice and Rats • Found Drains and kitchens • Control Poisoning, trappings, fumigation
