Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest extermination camp of the Third Reich, stands as a chilling reminder of the genocide perpetrated by the Nazis during World War II. This UNESCO World Heritage site witnessed the systematic murder of 1.5 million individuals, including Jews, Poles, Russians, and Gypsies. Its grim structures—fenced perimeters, watchtowers, barracks, and gas chambers—serve as a harrowing testament to human cruelty. Established in 1947, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum educates visitors about the importance of remembrance in combating prejudice and promoting human rights.
