  6. Have you ever forgotten • one assignment or workbook for homework? • about a test?

  7. Timeline for using a planner throughout the day • Initial planner set-up • Sunday night • During Class • End of school day, before going home • At home, after school • Before bedtime

  8. Initial Set-Up • Instantly open your planner to the current page with a binder clip. • Write the phone numbers of responsible classmates from each of your classes in the back of your planner, in case you ever have questions about homework.

  9. Sunday Night • Spend 10 minutes on Sundays preparing for the week. • Write down your goals for the week, sports practices, project due dates, test dates, etc. • Highlight project due dates and then consider what you have the night before.

  10. Do you ever feel like your parents nag you too much?

  11. Would you like them to stop? • Involve them when you plan your week • Ask your parents what they have planned for the week • Ask if they have anything planned for you suach as a doctor appt or birthday dinner for a relative. • Let them know what you have going on as well.

  12. When parents know you have things under control, they almost always stop nagging!

  13. During Class • Keep a pen in the rings of your planner • Keep your planner on your desk • Record your homework as it is assigned in class and materials you will need to take with you.

  14. End of School Day/Before Going Home • In the last few minutes of the day, take a few seconds to plan when you will work on homework that evening. • Check your planner before you go jhome to make sure you have everything you will need.

At Home, After School • Stick to your Schedule! • If you get off schedule, get back on track by thinking about your priorities. • Power down during homework time. • Turn off cell phones, TV, radio, or iPod. • Avoid the distractions by getting homework done on time and then enjoy your video games, texting, or music later.

  16. Time Saving Tip Use a timer to help you stay focused. Set the timer for the amount of time you think it will take to complete the assignment, then work to beat the clock.

  17. Before Bedtime • Avoid rushed mornings by taking a minute before you go to bed to check your planner: • Did you get all forms signed? • Is all of your homework in your backpack? • Do you have your lunch money/lunch? • Get everything you need ready, in your backpack, and placed by the door before you go to bed.

  18. Keeping a Good Balance • Use your planner for organizing more than just schoolwork. • Record your sports activities, doctor appointments, family events, etc.

  19. Planners: A Lifelong Tool • Developing the habit if using a planner takes some effort. • You’ll find that schoolwork is easier to manage, your grades will improve, and your level of stress will decrease because you will be in control!
