  3. Caffeine • Caffeine is dangerous if you have a lot. • A high amount of caffeine is one gram. • Dangerous things will happen if you have a lot such as anxiety, insomnia, and poor digestion. • If you have one and a half grams then agitation and muscle tremors will appear.

  4. A lethal dose of caffeine is ten grams. • A main effect of withdrawal is headache. An inability to sleep depends on the person and how much caffeine they take in. • In Sweden and Denmark, Red Bull is illegal because of its side effects.

Sugar • Excessive intake of sugar can cause obesity. • People who drink more then thee or more sugary sodas daily have a 62% more dental decay, fillings and tooth loss. • One can of soda contains the maximum recommended intake of sugar a day. • Sugar can contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties, and crankiness in children.

  7. Sugar can effect the immune system; it makes white blood cells sluggish, lowering the resistance to disease. • To much sugar can cause fatigue and increased hyperactivity. Eight percent of daily calories are the daily recommended allowance of sugar.

  9. Other interesting sugar facts • The average American consumes two to three pounds of sugar a week. • In the last 20 years, we have increased sugar consumption from 26 pounds a year to 135 pounds. • Soda is the most popular drink consumed in the United States, even more than water!

  10. The average soda has 56 grams of sugar in 16 ounces. • The average diet soda has no sugar but many sweeteners can be harmful. • Gatorade has 52 grams of sugar in 16 ounces. • An energy drink has around 56 grams of sugar.

  11. SOLUTIONS

  12. We have many solutions on how to increase public awareness. • One solution is to hang posters around our school to tell about how caffeine and sugar affects our body. • Another thing we did was to talk to our school board to rise concern about the drinks they sell in school.

  13. We want to spread awareness online, because it is most used by teens, our target age group, so we are working to make many online groups such as Facebook and MySpace. • We are trying as hard as we can to spread awareness about caffeine and sugar in common beverages. Other people have tried, but they are adults and don’t know how to get the message to teens. We hope to succeed.
