Internet Governance(Working Definition – WGIG) Internet governance is the development and application by governments, the private sector and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programmes that shape the evolution and use of the Internet. CTU / Caribbean IG Timeline • Early 2005 - CARICOM Secretariat requests CTU to address IG in the Caribbean on their behalf • Sep 2005– Oct 2008: • 4 Caribbean IG Forum sessions (One with CIF); Inputs made to CARICOM participation in WSIS, global IGF and CARICOM ICT Steering Committee • Workshops on IG Technical and Policy Issues • CTU established on-line IGF www.ctu.int • Strengthened regional and international liaisons (ICANN, CIF, ARIN, LACNIC) • Ministerial engagement Caribbean Telecommunications Union 6th Caribbean Internet Forum (CIF), Port of Spain, October 2008

Caribbean IG Activities Status • 4th CIGF reviewed preliminary draft (Issue 0.1, Oct 2007) of regional IG framework • Volunteer WG targeted to complete Issue 1.0 draft in2008 • Prelim draft was submitted as input document to CARICOM 2010 planning; Issue 1.0 also to be submitted • Some priority areas and projects identified • Regional development metrics • Infrastructure development initiatives (physical, logical, content) • Increasing Caribbean involvement in IG activities through opportunities and outreach Caribbean Telecommunications Union 6th Caribbean Internet Forum (CIF), Port of Spain, October 2008
