Why Test Fitness? • Just as Fitness is specific, so is the method of measuring the level of each component. • One of the first steps in measuring fitness is to be clear about the reasons for the testing. • A key point to remember is that testing is only one part of the information-gathering process. It is not a magical tool that will transform athletes into world-beaters. • Any fitness test used must also meet certain criteria in order to be a ‘good’ test.
The Purpose? • To identify strengths and weaknesses. • To get feedback on the success of a previous training programme or routine. • To compare one athlete with another. • To design a training programme. • To motivate athletes. • To check an athlete’s readiness toreturn to activity after injury
What makes a ‘Good’ Test? • Must be relevant – it must test what you want it to. • Must be valid and reliable. • Must have standard protocols which are sport-specific. i.e. same amount of warm-up time, same order of tests, recovery time between tests - (standard means they will be the same each time the test is run). • Will give you similar results each time you run it.
The Test Battery • You will complete the following Fitness Tests under the supervision of your teacher • 5km Run Time Trial • Beep Test • 40m Sprint Test • Max Press Up Test • Sit & Reach Flexibility Test • Vertical Jump Test • Two Step Jump Test
