  4. The first steps of EBCA • Starting with a very limited group of associations • Starting with the paperwork (statutes of EU npo) • Starting with initial funding • Starting with a central back-office • In order to get the organization up and running as fast as possible

The present goals of EBCA • An international notforprofitorganization • Founded in October 2008 to better support the nationalburnpatientassociations, • in a coordinatedway • In a permanent way (sec., HQ fix) • In order to betterdefend the rights of the burnpatientson a European level (towards EU officials and stakeholders) • With a centralinformation point • Fundedby all partiesconcernedwithbetterprevention and betterrightsfor the burnpatients

The funding of EBCA • Every organization or company involved in the goals of EBCA can support us financially, provided: • They have a long term view (multi-year agreement) • They allow us to keep our independence • They support us with practical knowledge for all EBCA members and contacts • They help us to reach our targets

Some homework to be done (1) • EU is lookingforreliable data about: • Number of burnincidents in Europe (heavy to light) • Place of the burn incident (domestic, work, transport, …) • Causes of burnincidents • Number of victims (casualties, SBC, hospital ER, GP…) • Damagecausedbyfires to families and society • CAN YOU HELP US WITH THIS FOR YOUR COUNTRY? (pleasefrom a patients point of view)

The first real international EU launch • “Burnprevention does notneed to be a gamble” = campaigntitle • EBCA offers its help to EU decision makers as a touch stone in policymaking • The EBCA burn box formax 100 MEP’s • Consisting of: • A personalised black box, withMEP’s name writtenonit • 16 pages withinformationon all nationalmembers and supportingmembers • 2 sub-boxes: • Onewith a dice and a poker gamble game • Onewith a set of tools to already start improvingtheir private domesticfiresafety • Of courselaunchedwith a press conference, • followedwith a more detailedpresentationon the targets of EBCA inside the EU buildings in Brussels

Some homework to be done (2) • The EBCA box in the first fase: • We needfrom all nationalmemberorganizations • Your high resolution logo and full contact data • Max 1 page of textonwhoyou are, whatyou do and whereyourpoints of key interest are in the future • Somepicturessupportingyourpresentation • Contact data • Possiblenationalco-partners • In order to keep the view of the people and burn topics in your country • EBCA will do the DTP, and send to youforapproval • Target for box drop: January 2011
