  1. History Cooperativa Agrícola Vitivinícola de Cauquenes Ltda., better known as Viña Lomas de Cauquenes, was started by a group of people on December 23th, 1939 due to a devastating earthquake that destroyed most of the wine cellars owned by the local wine growers.

  2. In 1946, it had 115 Cooperatives and reached a production of 3.600.000 liters of wine and 200.000 liters of sun exposed wine. Later and until 1973, roofed warehouses, vineyard machinery, cooling equipment, bottleling line, etc., were built with fiscal founds and the Cooperative partner fees. Foto aérea tomada en 1967

  3. Year by year, Viña Lomas de Cauquenes has acquired advanced technology production machinery, stainless steel barrels, press, etc., and it has became an important reference for the economy not only local but regional.

  4. All the company vineyards as well as all the partners’ lands are located within the Province of Cauquenes. The landscape consists of valleys and smooth hills, 35 kilometer from the Pacific Ocean, facing the interior of the Coast Mountain Chain, which produce a very appropriate microclimate for the vineyard, lost of rains during winter and hot summers, with remarkable differences in temperature between day and night, clear skies and a great sun exposure, all these together with the soil’s characteristics make excellent wine production.

  5. The company owns vineyards in different agro climate areas such as Molco, Sauzal, Santo Toribio, Quella, Pocillas, Coronel de Maule, Pilén and central Cauquenes. This biodiversity is the key of the elegance and complexity that distinguish the noble character of this wine’s region.

  6. In 1995, the organic project was started in a 50 hec. Vineyard owned by the Cooperative. In 1997-1998, the Cooperativa Agricola Vitivinicola de Cauquenes was the FIRST CHILEAN VINEYARDS producing organic wine as clean and respectful agricultural tradition with the environment was an habit passed from generation to generation. Nowadays, refine varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Malbec and Viognier are produced.

  7. The organic wine, as any product under that denomination, is produced without the use of any agro-chemicals, fertilizing and pesticide that could be a risk for the health and the environment. During the wine production, not only the wine needs to be elaborated under the appropriate regulations, but the vine grapes must be cultured organically for 3 years before the certification.

  8. During the vine grapes culture and the organically elaborated product period, the certifying company keeps strict surveillance of the developed activities and process. Viña Lomas de Cauquenes is certified by IMO-Suiza, one of the most internationally validated rigorous company.

  9. Nowadays, it has 258 associated producers whose lands account for a total of 2,527 hec vineyard. Different specialized oenologists and journalists define Cauquenes as a Terroir, as its hundred-year-old vineyards, perfect coast-influenced weather, poor soils with scarce-hydric sources, which makes the production of great aromatic concentration grapes possible, are perfectly and harmonically mixed together with the culture of this area, deeply linked to its land.

  10. This equilibrium system has been praised many time, so as you walk down this places, it can be noticed that everything is mixed in perfect harmony. Although the País grape (Mission) is a traditional vine that occupied the biggest area of the zone, the producers have evolved in the search for new aromas and tastes. Now, the partners has vines such as: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Carignan, Viognier, Malbec and Syrah.

  11. Viña Lomas de Cauquenes annually develops an integral management plan for its Cooperatives’ vineyards, based on periodic visits from Agronomists, advising and supervising about disease control and monitoring rigorously the Cooperatives’ production, supplying the cellars with grapes in perfect condition requested by our Oenologist and his advisers.

  12. Our grapes are produced under a strict outlining system centralized by a software specially designed for the quality goals set by the company. Our cellar currently has a 24,000,000 liters app. capacity, consisting in unlined cement, stainless steel and French, American and Hungarian oak tanks.

  13. Our production plant has a machinery autonomous enough to fulfill the needs of different markets not only nationwide but also worldwide. Nowadays, our plant is certified by the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).

  14. In July, 2006, Michelle Bachelet, Chilean president, was in Viña Lomas de Cauquenes signing an agreement to Guarantee of Origin our vine Paris (Mission) as Cauquenes area. This was an important referent to strength the origin of this traditional winery zone of our country in the exporting market.

  15. Commercialization During 2005, the company joined the international association FAIRTRADE (FLO). This is a big step for our cooperatives and its people, as it benefits the commercialization of our products in the most demanding markets, with the collaboration of our consumers who appreciate the effort and quality of the wines elaborated by smaller producers who are trying to generate a sustainable development of their industry through a fair trade.

  16. This is a real possibility to keep the oldest wine culture alive, being present in culture and exceptional quality. This is an association that generates better commercial conditions through campaigns and the promotion of products from companies that are socially responsible.
