  4. Objectives • Sharing information to have common understanding on seasonal emergency situations in order to take possible actions. • To enhance and strengthen coordination and collaboration among stakeholders.

  5. 1. Rain fall (24/10/09 -21/11/09 E.C.) Situation

  6. Rain fall situation con’t June, Dekad 3 • In the month of July, rainfall distribution in wetern Amhara was normal and above normal, whereas in eastern Amhara was normal and below normal. • To look LEAP outputs.

  9. 2. 2009/10 Agricultural activities ፡- Belg:- • Planned area - 267,181 ha • Ploughed area – 211,406 ha (79.16%) • Planted area – 175,895 ha (83.16%) • Harvested area – 175,895 ha (100%)

  13. 2.1. Crop Situation • Crop stand • Belg crops:- reported as already harvested, • Meher crops:- at germination & vegetative growth stage, • Crop disease & pest • Crop disease:- No • Crop pests:- • Even though fall army worm infestation is decreasing due to the control measures taken, but the problem is still existing in the areas where the infestation has been created.

Crop pest con’t… • Stock borer infestation on 312 ha of maize in Simada woreda of S/Gonder zone, 1121 ha and 189 ha of cereal crops (maize & sorghum) in werebabo and Ambasel woredas of S/Wolo zone respectively, but control measures are going to be taken. • In N/Gonder zone, Metema woreda 300 ha of cotton crop totally damaged by flight (already replanted with other crop) and Tegedie woreda 153.5 ha of various crops affected by grass-hoppor.

  15. 3. Livestock Situation • Water and pasture situation: • There was slight shortage of feed in some pocket low land areas of Wag-himira and N/Wolo (kobo, lasta & bugna) zones. • Livestock body condition:- • Was normal and good with the exception of some pocket areas mentioned above.

  16. 3.1. Animal Health Situation • Lumpy Skin Disease was created in 3 kebeles of Adi-Arkay woreda of N/Gondar zone, and 3 cattle were lost. • But in other areas of the region, no disease outbreak report

  17. 4. Human situation 4.1. Human drinking water access • Becoming normal and adequate owing to the occurrence of good rain in all areas of the region. 4.2. Human health situation • AWD:- • Reported in 5 zones and 40 woredas in (S/Gonder, N/Gonder, Awi, E/Gojam & W/Gojam) of which 5 woredas are newly reported (Banja, Dangila, Enarj, Quara and Jawi). • In Simada Woreda 186 people were affected • 162 treated and returned to their home • others under treatment • In N/Gondar zone Tegede woreda- 3 peoples were affected and has got treatment

Market situation Supply :- • crop • Normal and no significant change. • Livestock • In all areas of the region there was no significant change as compare to the previous month, except slight increase in 5 weredas of N/Wolo zone (Lasta, Raya-kobo, Gidan, Meket & Habru) and slight dicrease in Dawnt & Andabet woredas of N/Wolo and S/Gonder zones respectively.

  19. Market situation con’t Price:- • Staple foods • In all areas of the region there was slight increase of prices of most staple food crops as compare to the previous month of the same week.

  20. Market situation con’t … • Livestock • In most areas of the region there was slight increase of prices of some livestock as compare to the previous month of the some week.

Hazardous Situation Hazards happened:- • Lightening:- • In Wadla woreda of N/Wolo zone, 1 person and 4 domestic animals were died in the day of July 14, 2009 EC. • Wag (Gazgible woreda) – 1 person died • Flood • Wag (Gazgibla woreda - 019 kebele), 60.25 ha of different crops damaged and 11 various domestic animals taken by the flood, similarly in 012 & 017 kebeles 2 persons were taken by the people. • Wag (Dahna woreda) – 202 people highly affected, • S/Gonder (Hamusit town) – 85 houses affected,

Hazard con’t… • Land-slide • N/Shoa (Mida-weremo woreda) – 191 people endangered, 46 ha of land damaged in the day of July 5,2009 EC. • Wag (Dahna woreda) – 3 people died and 6 people heavily injured. • Hailstorm damage:- • W/Gojam (Mecha woreda) – 205 people highly affected. • N/Gonder – Beyeda 20 ha (50% damage), Janamora 405.24 ha, Alefa 98 ha (45% – 100 %) and Gonder zuria 113 ha various crops affected. • S/Gonder – Fogera woreda 3 domestic animals died and 155 houses affected,

  29. TSF update (from WFP) • 13 hotspot priority one woredas in the region (June 2017 classification), • WFP supported only the 12 SGTSF woredas, due to resource shortfall, • Market assessment forFresh Food Voucher (FFV) pilot project in 3 woredas (Raya-kobo, Habru and D/Zuria) has been completed.

Major Achievement • 2017 flood contingency plan completed and distributed to Sectors and IPs, • Fast response to hailstorm and flood affected areas:- • Mecha woreda of W/Gojam zone for 205 beneficiaries, 123 qt of food grain (wheat) and 2 package plastic sheets for 4 months have been delivered, • Dahna woreda of Wag zone for 202 beneficiaries, 91 qt of food grain (wheat) for 3 months, 64 blanket and various household utensils have been delivered, • Response to AWD affected area:- • Simada woreda of S/Gonder zone, aqua tab 3,900 box, water agar 18,960 bottle, pure 375 box and 45 qt wheat (for 2 months supported by FH) • Field monitoring and support has been made in flood prone areas of west and east Amhara. • In general Collecting, Analysing and Disseminating seasonal emergency information to stakeholders.

  34. 9. Problems • Gaps in timely and full package provision of emergency relief food. • Lack of active and regular participation of government agricultural sector in the monthly forum. • communication gap on situational update report .

  35. 10. The Way Forward • Timely and full package provision of emergency relief food. • Close follow up of flood damage prevention and mitigation activities and the damages that will happen. • Emergency seed support • Strengthen early warning information flow.
