  1. 4 Hilarious Myths Regarding Accountants While some consider accountants boring, it simply isn’t! How can you call a profession boring when it requires so much analytical and mathematical knowledge? Right? Ha-ha wrong! You do need maths to be an accountant, but you don’t need to be a mathematical prodigy to be an accountant; that’s a flat-out myth! It’s our job to debunk the myths regarding accountants and accounting, so keep reading below to know the myths before you look for “an accountant of Pascoe Vale” to follow. 1. Accountants must be good at maths Everyone, even your parents, has narrated that accountants are good at maths. As I have said earlier, all students dreaming of becoming an accountant must include mathematics; you don’t need to be a genius in maths. Accounts only need to be efficient in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and some algebra. You need to know those because you need to use Excel spreadsheets and accounting software to perform calculations as an accountant. And even after you have secured an accountant in maths and become an accountant, you still need to study new modules to gain inclusions. 2. Accounting is boring 3. Those who can’t do it find it boring. I speak for myself; I am a chemistry-loving person, but I tried accounting, and I failed it miserably. This is because I didn’t understand the subject much and hence wasn’t able to like it. The subject or the field isn’t boring at all; it’s all about perception. Back in the

  2. past, you need to sit in a dull office and calculate all the awful stuff. Nowadays, the accounting field has broadened and became much more enjoyable. New fields like forensic accountants have been introduced just recently. This field deals with legal authorities and works like detectives to investigate fraud and financial irregularities. Also, every public personality has an accountant, so you might even work for your favorite actor or singer if you are lucky. 4. All accountants work for longer 5. That’s not true for most accountants. For roles like auditing, you may need to work for more hours than average, but that’s only during the tax season or any other busy season. If you work under a bigger company, you will be expected to work extra hours in the evenings or weekends mostly. And I don’t think that’s related to only this profession. Even in normal office jobs, doctors, engineers, etc., people do overtime or work longer when required. With that said, most of the accountants enjoy a healthy balance of work and life. 4. All accountants are tax experts This is the most popular misconception that you are already a tax specialist if you are an accountant. As endearing it may sound, this is a general misconception. Tax accounting is a branch of accounting like financial accounting, management accounting, etc. While most graduates have an understanding of taxes, they shouldn’t be called an expert. The profession of an accountant works quite similarly to doctors. For example, to gain an MBBS degree, you need to gain knowledge about every part of the human body, but that doesn’t make you a skin specialist or a neurologist. For that, you need to study a particular topic. Accountants are like this. Conclusion There you go! 4 obvious yet ridiculous myths about accountants debunked! Not an accountant but seeking one in Oak Park? Searching “accountant in Oak Park” on Google will locate accounting firms for you. So, go and try if you haven’t already.
