  2. There are many statements about influencer marketing and how it has a negative impact on SEO. That being the case is because Google considers influencer marketing links as paid and expects that you let the influencer place nofollow on them. But influencer marketing is, in fact, an excellent way to drive additional site views. Quick recall! Last March, I discussed some tips on How to communicate your SEO work better. Among the suggestions, I mentioned about knowing your audience and formulating the right message. Influencer Marketing is one of the forms of knowing your potential customers or audience. So let’s get to the bottom point instead.

  3. Can influencer marketing impact SEO negatively? As I mentioned earlier, influencer marketing helps drive additional traffic to your site. It means “paying” influencers which deal with offering them your products or service for free. And this is a strategy that goes way back, except with a different platform. But of course, we can’t always assume that people will like this idea, or that it will still be a successful trial run. Not all influencers will want your product and recommend or tell their followers about it; therefore not all of them will link to your website.

  4. This whole process is a bit frustrating when it comes to SEO and Google’s guidelines as you get penalised for having negative feedback or reviews from these influencers. So you get a penalty and yet they have no idea of your purpose for giving away products to be reviewed or promoted. Offering consumers a product for free in the hopes that they might decide to consider it later is no different than them purchasing the product in a store because it’s still up to them whether to use it or not. And not all web content creator aims directly for reviews about their products. If you have made it clear that you offered your products for free so people can give positive reviews about it, that’s a different story.

  5. But if your goal is only to expand the audience of your product and links or reviews comes second, then there’s no way that Google should penalise you for that (Halasz, 2018). It would be best to read first the FTC guidelines before you rush headfirst onto influencer marketing campaigns to make sure it fits your purpose. Other than that, adverse SEO effects have rarely happened to those who do influence marketing.
