REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA IAEA expert mission – lecturer at

This workshop aims to support the implementation and development of national strategies to reduce public exposure to radon. Participants will learn approaches to minimize radon exposure through building codes and corrective actions. The expert lecturer will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject, and discussions will be constructive and helpful.

Intro • National Workshop on prevention and remediation of Radon from homes, public buildings and workplaces, 17-18 February 2016, Skopje, Republic of Macedonia • Purpose • Train the participants to understand and discuss the approaches to minimize exposure of the public due to Radon, both through the development of building codes for the design of new buildings and the application of corrective actions to reduce radon concentrations • Participants • Building professionals coming from University, Ministries, Regulator, building companies, companies – producers of building materials, local authorities …

Invited expert Aleksandar Birovljev, Dr. Managing Director Eurofins Radonlab AS Forskningsveien 1B, 0373 Oslo, Norway • Impressive both theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject area • prepared the material in a clear and logical sequence. • present the material in intelligible and meaningful way • covered the subject matter adequately. • constructive and helpful in discussions • Asset – speaks Serbo-Croatian language (understandable by the people from the country)

Professors from State university – Faculty of architecture, appointed in including Radon issue and work closely with National Radon workgroup • Increased communications • Amendments to the Law of building materials (Draft phase), Regulator – Ministry of economy • Radiation testing, index of radioactivity • Proposal by participants for implementation of Rn issue in Building codes
