  2. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires each state in the USA to provide special education and services related to it abiding by the federal standards. Under the regulations of IDEA all students, from the age of 3 to 18 (or 21), are entitled to obtain special education services through their local school districts or private special needs schools. To receive special education a child must determine a disability in one of the following thirteen specific categories laid down by the IDEA: Autism Spectrum Disorder Specific Learning Disability Developmental Disability Emotional and/or Behavioral Disability Intellectual Disability Intellectual Impairment Deaf-Blind Speech and Language Disability Hearing Impairment Visual Impairment Physical or Orthopedic Impairment Traumatic Brain Injury Multiple Disabilities Other Health Impairments (including attention deficit disorder) Depending on each child’s needs, a special education school must be able to provide the child the right education with optimal care and sensitivity by means of right teaching techniques.

  3. DIR MODEL PROGRAM DIR MODEL PROGRAM The Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship (DIR) based approach is a progressive model for understanding and evaluating any child’s development. It is an effective technique that helps in identifying individual developmental profiles through which unique programs can be developed for children who experience developmental delays autism spectrum disorders, autism, and other developmental disorders. MUSIC THERAPY MUSIC THERAPY Music Therapy is the application of interventions to realize each child’s individual goals within a therapeutic relationship with a Music Therapy professional. It is counted within the league of ‘expressive therapies’, the process consists the involvement of a professional music therapist who uses music and all of its various facets, which include, mental, physical, emotional, aesthetic and spiritual, to assist children with different disabilities improve not only their mental and physical health but also enhance their learning ability.

  4. FEDC CHART FEDC CHART An FEDC chart denotes the Functional, Emotional, and Developmental Capacities of the special needs children. A well thought-out FEDC chart helps in mapping out each child’s growth and development. It assists in keeping an account of the milestones a special needs child has reached and which ones require more attention by the tutors. The charts can be divided into as many milestones required to determine the progress of the child, for instance: Social problem solving, mood regulation and formation of a sense of self Engagement and Relating Interest in the world Sense of reality, emotional and logical thinking
