  1. GET IT IN GLASS FOR BABIES' SAKE WHY MOTHERS'MILK BANK USES GLASS BOTTLES Glass is better for babies. Glass bottles are food safe. Heating milk in plastic bottles may leach harmful chemicals from the plastic into milk. Glass has an almost zero rate of chemical interactions, ensuring that the products inside a glass bottle keep their strength, aroma, and flavor. Glass is the only widely-used packaging material considered “GRAS” or “generally recognized as safe” by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends consumers to “Use alternatives to plastic, such as glass.“ Glass is better for the planet. Glass is a more natural substance and requires less energy to manufacture and recycle. Recycling glass is a great way to keep waste out of landfills, help conserve natural resources, and reduce the amount of energy that is used in the glass manufacturing process. Glass is an inert material that is impermeable. Glass bottles are 100 percent recyclable and an estimated 80 percent of recovered glass containers are made into new glass bottles. Crude oil and natural gas are needed to produce plastics. rmchildren.org/mothers-milk-bank
