This document presents detailed profiles of three high school students, each with unique backgrounds and academic needs. Student #1 is a 17-year-old Hispanic female excelling in science and math but struggles with social studies due to language barriers. Student #2, a 17-year-old white male, faces challenges in reading and math despite enjoying science, and shows social awkwardness. Student #1 ESLPersonal • 17 year old Hispanic female • Her primary language is Spanish. • She is average height and average weight for an eleventh grade girl. • Her family is middle class • She lives with her mother and three sisters. • One is older and two are younger • Her parents still have a business in the Dominican Republic, so her Dad lives there most of the year. • The family travels back and forth between Georgia and the Dominican Republic throughout the year.
Student #1Academic • She reads at her grade level • She excels at science and math. • She is in a trigonometry class. • Her least favorite subject is social studies, because she does not know a lot of American history. • She receives no extra help in the classroom. • She is a visual and auditory learner.
Student #1Social • She is very quiet in the classroom because she is not sure of her grammar at times. • She is a good student, she gets good grades and completes all assignments • She does not participate in class discussion, but does take very thorough notes • She is very liked by her classmates and the teacher • She smiles all the time
Student #1 Behavioral • She is adaptive and does everything the teacher assigns • She follows classroom rules and maintains appropriate behavior at all times • She seems to work well with other students • She is a member of the Latino Club.
Student #2 IEPPersonal • 17 year old white male • His primary language is English • He is average height and thin for a 17 year old boy • He is lower to middle class • He lives with both parents • He has an older sister. • Mother attended a technical college. She is a medical secretary. The Dad did not go to college. He is a plumber. • He has lived here his whole life.
Student #2Academic • He reads below his grade level. • He has difficulty with reading, writing, and math • His favorite subject is science • He gets extra time to finish tests • He has a cooperative teacher that helps him in math class • He is an auditory and visual learner • He has an IEP
Student #2Social • He is socially awkward in the classroom • He does not participate in class discussions • He will sometimes just sit and nor be paying attention to the teacher • He does not always come prepared for class(pencil, paper) • He does not seem to interact with the other students • He has little interaction with the teacher • He is a nice boy, but very quiet
Student #2Behavioral • He is sometimes maladaptive at times. • His mind seems to be somewhere else when he should be paying attention and taking notes • He does seem to like working with other students
Student # 3 RegularPersonal • 16 year old African-American female • Her primary language is English • She is average height for a 16 year old girl. She is very thin. • She is middle class • She has an older sister, two younger step-sisters, and one younger half brother. • She lives with her Dad and her step-mother. • She was born in New York, but has lived in Georgia since she was a baby. • Her Dad started college, but never finished. He works for AT&T • Her step mom does not work. • Her mother is going to school to be a pastry chef.
Student # 3Academic • She reads above her grade level • She excels in all of her subjects • She’s very artistic and creative • She receives no extra help in the classroom • She is a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner
Student #3Social • She participates in all class discussions and volunteers for reading aloud • She is a teacher’s dream student: she completes all her work on time, she excels in class, she has a positive attitude in the classroom, and she is very popular with classmates and teachers. • She is admonished sometimes for talking too much.
Differentiate • Student #1: Follow up more with her before, during, or after class. • Student #2 :He is invisible in the classroom; try to draw him out by asking him what he thinks. • Student #3: Use her academic and social ability to help with other students who are not as confident or knowledgeable as she is.
