Two reactors produce heat that turns water into steam. Steam turns turbines that generate electricity. Water from the Chesapeake is used to cool the system.
There are currently 104 licensed to operate nuclear power plants in the United States, which generate about 20% of our nation's electrical use. Maryland currently has one nuclear power plant producing about 31% of our electricity.
