The people of Macedonia are a diverse mix of ethnic groups from southern Europe, North Africa, and eastern Asia. Historically influenced by various empires, including Roman, Bulgarian, and Ottoman, Macedonia became a cultural melting pot. The major religions are Christianity and Islam, with an economy primarily based on agriculture, focusing on crops like wheat and corn. The central river and natural resources such as lead and copper have shaped its role in trade and settlement. The nation has experienced significant conflicts, including wars and uprisings throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
