  1. Gaining Momentum • 2 Corinthians 5:17 - IDENTITY • 2 Corinthians 5:20 - ACTION • 2 Corinthians 5:14 - MOTIVE • 2 Corinthians 5:21 - CELEBRATION

  2. We need to boast (celebrate) 2 Corinthians 5:12 We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart.

  3. Christ-exalting Boasting 2 Corinthians 12:1I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained by it, I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord.

  4. Christ-exalting Boasting 2 Corinthians 12:7-87 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

  5. Christ-exalting Boasting 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

  6. Why we need to boast (celebrate) • Christ is honored. • Displays the power of the gospel.

  7. What we should boast about (celebrate) • Our Justification – What God has done. • Our Sanctification – What God is doing. • Our Glorification – What God will do.

  8. Justification - Boast in what God has done 2 Corinthians 5:17-19 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

  9. Sanctification - Boast in what God is doing 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

  10. Sanctification - Boast in what God is doing 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. James 4:6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

  11. Glorification - Boast in what God will finish 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

  12. Glorification - Boast in what God will finish “Darkness is Screwed…  Power and Grace and Mercy!  The Jesus Way!” Terry Brands

  13. Eli Stickley 1996-2018 For the bELIever, death serves only as a pathway to our glorification (Romans 8:18-21)

  14. Glorification - Boast in what God will finish Romans 8:18–21 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

  15. Boast (Celebrate Your Weakness) 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
