Current Status Injury is the major killer of adolescents Young people and adolescents remain at excess risk from injuries compared to other age groups EC approach: WPAI Strategy + Communication from the Commission “Actions for a Safer Europe” (6/2006) Safety of children and adolescents as a priority issue Public Health Program Work Plan 2005: ‘to analyse national policies and strategies to reduce risk-taking behaviour among young people (aged 15–24) and to identify existing models of good practice’ AdRisk Project 2006 – 2008 Community action on adolescents and injury Risk European situation analysis, strategy plan and community action Working together with Youth for a safer Europe

  3. Issues to be addressed 1- What are the specific risks of this target group? 2- Why are the risks above average? (situation analysis) 3- What are the policies to address the problem? 4- What works? (identification of good practices) 5- What can be done at European level / Member State level? (European strategy) 6- How to promote national actions ? (partner network, guidelines for national action plans, toolbox, start of implementation) Working together with Youth for a safer Europe

Way ahead - AdRisk March 2007 Stakeholder analysis and needs assessment performed (national experts, international NGO´s, leading institutions) April 2007 First draft of European situation analysis report available February 2007 Methodology for good practice guide developed May 2007 Draft outline for strategy document available June 2007 Partner network initialized (relevant structure for collaboration and exchange established) June-Oct. 2007 Toolbox pilot tests in 3-5 countries together with national partners 2008 Dissemination, pilot implementation of national action plans Working together with Youth for a safer Europe
