  3. 1.- Definition of the Service being collected Agricultural, industrial and services machinery and equipment repair and maintenance1 Commercial and industrial machinery repair and maintenance is defined as an economic unit primarily engaged in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment for agriculture, forestry, industrial, commercial and services, and machinery and equipment to move, lift and accommodate materials. Also includes the rectification of agricultural engine parts or industrial at the customer's request; repair and maintenance of machinery and general equipment, such as valves, pumps, fire extinguishers, sprayers, boilers; sharpening of saws and cutters for machinery and industrial equipment; welding machinery and industrial equipment, and welding of machinery and industrial equipment in combination with welding cars and trucks. 1/ According to the North American Industrial Classification System, Mexico (NAICS 2007)

  4. 2.- Unit of measure to be collected • The Revenues from the provision of services is the main concept for measuring economic activities; the Economic Surveys and Census collect several variables related to incomes, in short-term statistics (monthly basis) for example, capture the following: • Days worked • Dependent personnel of the company • Not dependent personnel of the company • Remunerations • Expenditures on goods and services consumption • Expenditures not derived from the activity • Revenues for services rendered and goods sold • Revenues not derived from the activity • It includes the monetary revenue obtained during the period of reference as a result of the service rendered and complementary activities. The output of agricultural, industrial and services machinery and equipment repair and maintenance, is measured as turnover. Data is collected at short-term and for structural statistics; turnover is measured in Mexican pesos and the statistical observation unit is the establishment.

  5. 3.- Market conditions and constraints • According to the results of the 2009 Economic Census, repair and maintenance of commercial and industrial machinery and equipment activities: • In 2008 there were: • 11,458 establishments (4% of the Sector 81). • A five-year term, establishments have increased 13%. • Currently employing about 69,841 people. • And generating annual revenues of 17,126,070 (thousand pesos). • In average each establishment employs 6 people; these units are characterized by micro and small size establishments.

  6. Share of economic units and total occupied personnel by economic activity, 2008 2009 Economic Census (percentages)

  7. Share of total revenues and census gross value added by economic activity, 2008 2009 Economic Census (percentages)

  8. Total revenues from the provision of services by product, domestic market, 2008 2009 Economic Census (thousand pesos)

  9. 4.- Standard classification structure and product details/levels The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS - Mexico), aims to provide a unique, consistent and updated framework for the collection, analysis and report of economic statistics, which reflects the structure of the Mexican economy. NAICS Mexico is the basis for the generation, presentation and dissemination of all economic statistics. Regarding the products for repair and maintenance of commercial and industrial machinery and equipment activities, preliminary lists of products to collect incomes by the type of product were used in the Economic Census, however, there have not been products incorporated into short-term statistics; we are currently evaluating the questionnaires (annually and monthly) to collect products detail.

  10. Repair and maintenance of automobiles and trucks, NAICS 2007 structure Sector 81, Other services, except government activities. NAICS structure1 1/North American Industry Classification System, Mexico, 2007.

  11. 5.- Evaluation of standard vs. definition and market conditions • The definitions of turnover/output presented in the questionnaires are aligned with international recommendations and the National Accounts System. • However, due to very particular characteristics of the repair and maintenance activities of the micro and small establishments with an average of 6 employed persons, that do not make use of accounting records to measure economic variables, it is difficult to collect data on short-term statistics. 6.- National accounts concepts and measurement issues related to GDP measurement • For the calculation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), is an indirect calculation that considers the following variables, provided by the Census and economic surveys. •  Production of machinery and equipment (manufacturing industry). • Turnover/output (maintenance and repair services). • Employment in activities of repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment (employment and occupation).

  12. 7.- Turnover/output data methods and criteria for choosing various output methods The National Economic Survey System carried out monthly and annually are based on sample surveys; the monthly survey covers the main variables: employed personnel, wages, incomes and expenses, while the annual survey covers structural variables: fixed assets, among others. The output of Agricultural, industrial, commercial and services machinery and equipment repair and maintenance activities is measured as a turnover.

  13. 8.- Evaluation of comparability of turnover/output data with price index practices From the update of the SPPI (2012 = 100), adoption of NAICS, and a new basket of products, the generic class will be integrated by the following services:
