  1. Background The client is a unit of a parent company recognized worldwide as a top manufacturer and seller of pharmaceutical products. The corporation has nearly 100 donor collection centers in the USA and Europe that provide source plasma for further manufacture into many medical products. SPG’s Consulting Assignment SPG helped the client close a deal with another biopharmaceuticals company for the acquisition of a number of plasma collection centers. The client asked SPG to help them focus the two organizations on the tasks required for the continuation of services, and to prepare them for a smooth transition into a single business entity. SPG – Project Approach SPG and key client employees focused on critical aspects of the integration to ensure that the process was done right the first time, and that deadlines were met. Areas of emphasis were: Keeping the business running. Transition Control Process - to ensure that no regulatory licenses or certifications lapsed and that the impact of the ownership change was reflected in all documentation and SOP’s. Resources - to provide the collection centers with updated SOP’s, training, testing/ certifications and QA support to efficiently achieve established quality standards. Governance Process - to manage the timely and efficient execution of the centers integration and transition plans through timely follow-up and expedited problem solving. Organization Design - with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for how the new centers will integrate with the existing donor center organization. Communication - to external and internal audiences to clarify and deliver timely, accurate information regarding the collection center’s migration. SPG – Project Approach (continued) Infrastructure with appropriate transition services for: Customer Service Processes. Procurement Process. Finance and Accounting Processes. Information Technology. Human Resources. Executive Information System of financial and operational indicators that tracks center performance, identifies trends, and expedites decision making to correct off-plan conditions. Stable Center Operating Environment that minimizes the impact of change in ownership and provides the centers with the necessary people, processes, and systems to achieve performance targets. Results and Quantitative Benefits The acquired centers were integrated into the rest of the organization, normal business operations in the centers were maintained, and improvements were implemented to establish uniform standards of performance. As a result of the project, the two plasma collection organizations were ready to function as a single, more effective, entity.
