Description • Demolition of existing 1700 ft2 Alcove • Construction of new 2250 ft2 Bldg. • Construction of new 300 ft2 “RF Hut” • Cable trays to be partially installed by Sector 20 General Contractor. • Electrical Equipment - New 1500 KVA Substation by Separate Subcontract. • Feed for Substation K-10B currently being installed during October Down Time. • New 2000 Amp Motor Control Center to be installed by K10B Subcontractor • Service for LCLS Sector 20 equipment only (not Sectors 21-30) Siding removed Hazardous waste (lead Paint) removal

Schedule • Title 2 Construction Package Completed Feb. 22, 2005 • Bid and contract with general contractor • RFP issued March 22, 2005 • Original Bids received April 14, 2005 • Re-bids received July 7, 2005 • Award originally scheduled for May 9 –Awarded August, ‘05 • Construction • Kickoff August ‘05 • Beneficial Occupancy scheduled March 31, 2006 • Critical Path - • Substation hardware PO went out June 30th, equipment installed Oct ’05, currently undergoing testing, 12KV feeds to be complete this week.

  12. Cost Estimate – 1.09.03.01 • Estimated Construction Cost - $2.66M • $2,030,000 construction main subcontract • $427,000 electrical equipment LLP separate subcontracts • $31,000 site preparation • $174,000 commissioning and project closeout

  13. Challenges • Management • Implementation of LCLS Construction Policies & Procedures, ISMS • Contractor management is key. Scheduling has been nearly linear up to now. • Cost/Schedule Risk • Late design change and late design may impact cost and schedule. (Cable Tray and process water) • Contractor ISMS learning curve has impacted early contractor schedule • Technical • Know and understand the user requirements to complete a successful project

Progress to Date • Title 2 Design package completed 2/22/05 • SLAC Work Authorization 9/2/05 • Contractor on site 9/2/05 • Demolition of existing structure complete 10/10/05 • K10B transformer pad and equipment installed • Site work for utility relocations, new foundations and new equipment pads in progress. • Equipment slab excavation and reinforcement in progress • Relocation of vent pipe in progress

ES&H • Working through learning curve for subcontractor to understand and work to principles if ISMS per LCLS Environmental Safety and Health Plan. • Electrical work on up to 12KV • Steel Erection • Hoisting and Rigging • Demolition and Hazardous material handling • Trench work • Fall Protection

  16. Next Steps • Complete design for lower vault process plumbing, fire protection • Provide EPICS integration (to be funded) • Safe Completion of Construction Project • Current Beneficial Occupancy Level 3 Milestone is 3/31/05. • Currently on track to meet that schedule
