  2. Welcome to Minot Real Estate • Minot, in the county of Ward, is strategically located in the north central part of North Dakota and was founded in 1866. As were most cities in ND, Minot came to being due to the construction of the Great Northern Railway. It acquired the nickname as “The Magic City” due to it appearing out of nowhere as a “tent city” and its initial remarkably, rapid growth. • Minot’s estimated population is nearly 49,000 and the metro area nears 80,000. Situated on the edge of the Bakken oil play, energy and agriculture are major contributors to the economy; however the largest employer is Minot Air Force Base with nearly 7000 serving on the base. The economy of Minot is considered more robust that comparable sized cities.

Minot provides a large variety of retail stores for shoppers within and from around the region. Minot also recently completed construction of a new airport terminal with air service to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Minneapolis and Denver.
