Icebox • Dictionary definition: • an insulated cabinet or chest with a partition for ice, used for preserving or cooling food, beverages, etc. • Student friendly definition: • a refrigerator • Sentence: • I took in a deep breath and looked over at the icebox to see if the shotgun was still there.

  4. Doggone • Dictionary definition: • to damn (verb) • Student friendly definition: • to curse or wish bad luck • Sentence: • Shucks, you'd think that with the Amoses being so doggone mean they'd worry about leaving a big old gun like that out in the open.
