First Day at School • A great opportunity to become familiar with the school environment • Tuesday, June 18th • 9:15 am – 11:30 am • No uniform • Bring a small snack and drink • Pick-up from classroom door

Learning to Read and Write Jolly Phonics • foundation for reading and writing. • International research: the best multisensory method of teaching phonics. • After one year’s teaching, children taught with Jolly Phonics have an average reading age around 12 months ahead of their actual age.
First Few Days • Find a place for your child to sit & leave. • Most children will settle down when parents have left. • The first school term starts Monday Sept. 2nd. • School finishes at 12 noon for the first 2 weeks. Collection at classroom door.
You can help! • Label everything! coats, hats, lunchboxes, drink bottles, pencil cases etc. • Schoolbags, lunchboxes can be easily opened and closed by child. • Fruit cut up, straws out of plastic etc.
Skills • Recognise their name. • Hang up coat. • Put on and take off coatsand sweatshirts(especially when they have been turned inside out!) - Zip/ button up coat. • Put shoes on the correct feet…velcro shoes..no laces. • Open and close schoolbags, lunchboxes, drinks. • Pierce juice carton with straw. • Toilet: Go independently, flush toilet, wash hands.
Other • Booklist - June 18th • Progress Folder • Medical problems or allergies. • Cover books in clear contact. • Label front cover of books/copybooks • Use homework diaries to communicate with teacher. • Door is alwaysopen if you ever need a quick word. • Arrange an appointment for detailed discussion
