  5. Fathers, according to Ephesians 6… U DA MAN! • Lead • Encourage • Inspire • Discipline • Instruct For some practical encouragement… Let’s go to the OT! Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Eph.6:4) U DA MAN!

(Eph.6:4) “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” Deut. 6:4-7

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (Deut. 6:4-5) • He is the One • It’s all about Him! • We’re here for Him • For His glory and His purposes • Effectiveness with God’s children begins with this heart attitude • Dad sets the tone for the family in this (U DA MAN!) • Life focused on Him (“with all your heart”) • By example, directing a family to be all about Him • Teed up to be effective rather than for provocation

Teed Up for Glory U DA MAN! • The problems start when I really think it’s about me… • …Or my reputation • …Or even my family…my children • Do my own thing and apply God’s fatherhood cookbook • That’s teeing up for problems that come later • God will not bless this idolatry • Knowing that we are His and our children are His • Transforms our attitude and approach with our children • Makes us really dependent on the Lord at the core • Sends us to prayer and gives us peace • They can really be dedicated to Him Teed Up for His Glory!

The Sweet Spot for Power 5“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6“These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.7You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. (Deut.6:5-7) U DA MAN! • Love God in response to His infinite, eternal and unconditional love for you • Move the Word from your head to your heart • Teach your children what’s on your heart • You’ve already applied • How is this practical?

The Sweet Spot for Power “This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their heart, And on their mind I will write them,” He then says, “And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin. (Heb.10:15-18) 5“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6“These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.7You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. (Deut.6:5-7) U DA MAN! • Confess and repent for purity (clear scorecard!) • This is the first hole of the rest of your life! • God’s Word bears fruit in a pure heart • He puts His Word on our hearts… Faith! • A pure heart, aimed at children’s hearts • The Sweet Spot!

The Sweet Spot for Power 19Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us… 22let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water… But My righteous one shall live by faith; and if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in Him.   (Heb.10:19-20, 22, 38) U DA MAN! • Have faith in His work on your heart • God to father Abraham: And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. (Gen.15:5-6) • Have faith in the specific Word of God • Know you’re in God’s presence (the Sweet Spot), and minister to children • U DA MAN God intends to use • It’s your spiritual job, not one for the flesh

  14. The Sweet Spot for Power God From the Sweet Spot in God’s presence, aim at your children’s hearts, and touch them with His Power. U DA MAN! U DA MAN! Love the Lord …with all your heart These words …shall be on your heart Teach them diligently to your children Child Touch your children with confidence as God’s vessel It begins with your heart.

(Gen.15:5-6) • You and Abraham (fathers with real faith in God)
