What is happening in Darfur? • Rebellion Groups (non-Arab) • Sudan Liberation Army & Justice Equality Movement • Accuse President Omar Hassan al-Barshir of favoring Arab Muslims over non-Arab Muslims • Janjaweed Militias (Arab) are Government sponsored terrorist • militias attack civilian supporters • Janjaweed destroy towns, food and water supplies • Millions are still threatened, at risk of starvation, rape and murder

  9. Why Does the Conflict Continue? Sudan gov’t won’t allow outside interference (US, UN) China gets oil from Sudan, if China pressures Sudan they might lose oil US army doesn’t have ability to send army in African Union peacekeepers not able to keep peace (poor pay, no weapons)
