  1. “The Play’s the Thing” Hamlet Scene Performances 10H Lit & Comp

  2. Working with a small cooperative learning team, you will produce a scene from Hamlet. • Your audience will include your classmates AS WELL AS invited students from other 9th and 10th grade Lit classes.

  3. Production Quality Memorization Blocking Costumes, props, etc. Flashy production is NOT a substitute for understanding!

  4. Assessment: What is this worth? Your assessment for this project will come from two sources: your performance itself and your production notebook. • Complete production notebooks are due Friday, March 18. • Scene presentations will begin Monday, March 21 and will go in order.

  5. Production Notebook Contents Statement of intended effect/ Scene analysis • one page description of your production; explains your artistic choices as well as your understanding of the text (This will be turned in on March 11 and returned for inclusion in your notebook.)

  6. Production Notebook Contents Annotated Script • complete text of your production including (for each time a character speaks): • character intent • textual connections • writer intent • stage inflection • behavior • visuals/sound • effect on audience

  7. Production Notebook Contents Set diagram • view of the performance space, marking arrangement of set pieces, etc.

  8. Production Notebook Contents Character analyses (two parts) • a diagram or illustration of the character in costume • a one-page inner monologue expressing the UNSPOKEN thoughts of the character during this scene (These will be turned in on March 11 and returned for inclusion in your notebook.)

  9. Production Notebook Contents Group rehearsal log • record of your rehearsal experiences (should have > 5 entries)

  10. I’m assigning your group and your scene. The group member with the fewest lines is the director. This person is MY contact person; he or she is NOT responsible for making everyone in the group work equally, get along, like each other, etc.
