University of Idaho Ag Updateby Steve Hines, Joel Packham & Garth Taylor, 2012 • One of every three jobs is directly or indirectly related to agriculture in south-central Idaho. • One of every three $1 dollar sales are directly or indirectly related to agriculture. • “Fifty-four percent of the farm gate receipts in the state come from the six counties in the Magic Valley,” said Steve Hines, UI extension educator in Jerome County. In other words, more than half of the state’s farm income of $7.82 billion in 2013 was generated in Jerome, Twin Falls, Gooding, Minidoka, Cassia and Lincoln counties. This continues to be the case into 2013 confirmed by Steve Hines due to the favorable pricing/value and yields of the dairy industry in spite of production being flat in 2013.
