  5. GRADUATION REQUIREMENT:26 Credits • 22 Foundation Credits • Required of ALL Students • 4 Additional Credits • 1 Math Credit • 1 Science Credit • 2 Elective Credits (Vary by endorsement)

  6. Foundation Requirements22 Credit • 4 Credits English • 3 Credits each of Math, Science, Social Studies • 1 Credit PE • 2 Credits of the Same Foreign Language • 1 Credit Fine Arts • .5 Credit Health • 4.5 elective Credits

  7. ENDORSEMENTS • 1 Credit each math and science • 2 Elective Credits (vary by endorsement) Endorsements are: • Arts and Humanities • Business and Industry • Multidisciplinary • Public Service • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

  8. TO EARN DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT • Students should complete the 26 credits consisting of the Foundation plus an endorsement. • Credits must include Algebra 2 and an Advanced Science

PERFORMANCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS • Bilingualism and Bi-literacy • Test data: Outstanding performance on a college AP test or IB exam Outstanding performance on PSAT, ACT-Plan, SAT, or ACT • College Courses: Outstanding performance in a dual credit course OR Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification of license

INTERNATIONALBACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM • Allen High School is one of 102 in Texas • Application process prior to acceptance • Must also meet all state graduation requirements • Curriculum is designed to provide a broad liberal arts experience for the college bound student • Proficient in language, mathematics, and the experimental sciences • In-depth exploration of the study of human behavior and the process of educational inquiry • Theory of Knowledge course, Creativity, Action, Service component, and an Extended Essay

  11. AP OR IB? • The two overlap often and fit together well • AP is nicely done piecemeal • IB is an intertwined curriculum • Challenges a student’s strengths and weaknesses • Both give a boost during college admissions • Both save on the college bill

Automatic College Admission • (TEC), 51.803, a student is eligible for automatic admission to a state college or university as an undergraduate student if the applicant earned a grade point average in the top 10 percent * of the student’s high school graduating class. The University of Texas gives automatic admission to the top 7%. *Varies with each University

  15. Automatic Admission • Enrolls in college no more than two years after graduating from high school • Submits an application to a Texas public university for admission before the institution’s application deadline.

  16. COLLEGE FINANCE 101 • GRANTS-money that is given to a student, usually because of financial need • SCHOLARSHIPS-money that is awarded because of exceptional achievement, talent, or skill
