Participant Observation Essay Naturally, I found that participant observation and interviews generated different types of information. Participant observation generated information, outlined previously in the essay, that was subjective. Interviews, on the contrary, gave me a relatively in–depth insight into my informants' lives, these insights will be explained later in the essay. Interviews allowed me to combine my informants' views with my own academic theories. Having multiple sources of information further allowed me to answer my original question, 'Are public spaces fully public?'. This section of the essay is my ethnography in its final form. I first met Sarah during my initial participant observation. The library was quiet as it was a Tuesday, and, as it was my ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

Given that the research problem in this report is ambiguous, the basic research method adopted is exploratory research. The role of exploratory research is to clarify and define a problem at the initial stage of the research. Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar and Babin (2011), suggest that exploratory research is not intended to provide conclusive evidence and is conducted with the expectation that subsequent research will be required to provide such conclusive evidence. Thus, exploratory research is the foundation of the research process which will lead to descriptive research, and maybe causal research. There are many exploratory methods that can be used to conduct research. These include field studies, action research, depth interviews, focus groups and desk research. This exploratory research utilised one qualitative method to collect data, which will help gain an insight of the research problem before further research is performed. The method chosen was 'in–depth interviews' which are relatively unstructured and extensive interviews in which the interviewer asks many questions and probes for in–depth answers (Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, & Babin; 2011). Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, and Babin, (2011) also suggest that there is no one perfect method which can meet all research objectives. In–depth interviews have been conducted with four members of the public who currently live in Australia and ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Exploratory Analysis Essay One of the most popular methods for solving the class imbalance problems is sampling. The most used sampling techniques are undersampling and oversampling. In undersampling, instances of the minority and majority classes are selected randomly in order to achieve a balanced stratified sample with equal class distributions, often using all instances of the minority class and only a subset of the majority class, or undersampling both classes for even smaller subsets with equal class sizes. Alternatively, in oversampling, the cases of the under–represented class are replicated a number of times, so that the class distributions are more equal (Crone and Finlay, 2012). Mujalli et al. (2016) indicated that using balanced datasets, especially those created using oversampling techniques, improved classifying a traffic collision according to its severity and reduced the misclassification of the minority class instances....show more content... One subset is the general, which contains all types of collisions, whereas the other subset is pedestrian–specific which only contains pedestrian collisions. Both subsets were used in order to find out if different patterns of variables affecting severity could be extracted when using general subset or a pedestrian specific one. To take into account the problem of imbalanced data, sampling techniques will be applied prior to developing BN models and analysis. The remainder of the paper is organized as follows: Section 2 presents the method and data used. In Section 3, the results and their discussion are presented. Section 4 includes the main conclusions of this study and finally recommendations are showed. 2. Material and ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Exploratory Self Study Limitations One limitation of this study was the small sample size. This study was an exploratory self study to better my own practices; therefore, the sample size only contained students from my own classroom. However, the students in the class were not required to participate in this study in fear that required participation would influence the students' responses. Students were only encouraged to respond if they felt comfortable to increase truthful responses. As a result, twenty–two students were part of the sample size, but only nineteen students participated. Another limitation was the short time frame in which this study was conducted. The study was conducted over the course of four weeks and within one math unit. Four weeks of data collection ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Exploratory Data Analysis Sample Exploratory data analysis is a process that allows investigation of each variable to be examined for the population or events of interest (Sylvia & Terhaar, 2014). Descriptive variables are utilized to describe the characteristics of a population or collection of events (Sylvia & Terhaar, 2014). The descriptive variables utilized in the case study regarding older community–dwelling patients with diabetes are age, gender, race, morbidity level, and chronic disease conditions. The descriptive data provides a detailed image of the population of participating in the study. The average age of patients participating in the study was 74.7 years, with the age of 73 being the most frequent. Of the three hundred ninety–two patients participating in the study, a little over half of the study participates were white men. Ninety–seven percent of the participates reported a "high risk" or "very high risk" morbidity level. Last, the descriptive variable assessing chronic health conditions reflected that 100% of participates have diabetes. Greater than 20 % of the patients reported hypertension, lipid disorder, degenerative joint disease, ischemic heart...show more content... An additional method to determine an outlier is to consider the distribution of the outlier to the median as opposed to the mean. Based on this principle, a value is considered an outlier if "positioned 1.5 times the value of the 75th percentile in a distribution" (Sylvia & Terhaar, 2014). In the case study, the boxplot figure displays values above and below the 75th percentile or the whiskers (Sylvia & Terhaar, 2014). However, the principal investigator of the study determined these values should be included as they provide meaning to the final results. In some situations when the outliers cause a skew in the distribution, other solutions or techniques should be pursued for analysis(Sylvia & Terhaar, ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Self Exploration Many of us go through life skimming the surface of our identities. That is, we don't truly dig deeply into our thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams. Part of the problem is that we're always on the go. When to–do lists keep swelling, self–exploration takes a backseat. How can it not, when we barely find time for self–care? Specifically, self–exploration involves "taking a look at your own thoughts, feelings, behaviors and motivations and asking why. It's looking for the roots of who we are – answers to all the questions we have about [ourselves]," according to Ryan Howes, Ph.D, psychologist, writer and professor in Pasadena, California. Having a deeper understanding of ourselves has many benefits. It "helps people understand and accept...show more content... Take some time and think about what you might need in order to be happy and ultimately successful in your job/career. For example, a few things to consider might be salary, geographic location, job autonomy, work hours, and professional growth opportunities, to name a few. Which ones of these, and/or others, are most significant; things that would make an obvious difference in whether we would enjoy our job/career? If you don't take the time to consider who you are and what you want, you won't know what you are looking for. You need to be aware that no job/career is going to be perfect and meet all of your expectations. But if you at least think about which things are more vital to your happiness and aim for those, you can come pretty close to what you want. Think about the skills and abilities you may have that you would like to utilize in your chosen profession (i.e. leadership, helping others, mathematical ability, creativity, communication, etc.) Which careers give you more of an opportunity to express yourself and be yourself? Many people make the mistake of assuming that they can and will do just about anything for the right amount of money. Well let me assure you that this is only partially true. In the beginning, the money may seem like enough to sustain your job satisfaction and happiness, but soon everyone realizes that money alone is only a temporary fix. Exploratory Essay The purpose of this research is to extend the understanding about the willingness of educated or non–educated participate in social contacts of varying degrees of closeness with members of diverse social groups, such as racial and ethnic groups. The culture of a selfish society taking over and "love your neighbor" dying a painfully slow death? Every time I leave my house and walk or drive in public, im amazed at the attitudes of some people. Theirs is so much aggression around that it's scary to open your mouth, even to defend yourself. When the goal of the literature is to precisely formulate problems, clear concepts, gain insights, eliminate impractical ideas and form hypotheses then exploratory research is used. Another method I will be using is Quantitative data in a survey. This is data are anything that can be expressed as a number, or quantified. Examples of quantitative data are scores on achievement tests, number of hours of study, or weight of a subject. These data may be represented by ordinal, interval or ratio scales. To calculate Q1 and Q3 , you must first arrange the observations in increasing order to find the median, Q1 is the median of the observations whose position in the list is to the left of the overall median, Q3 is the median of the observations whose position in the list is to the right of the overall median. 7. The five–number summary is minimum, Q1, median, Q3, maximum 8. Standard deviation measures spread. 9. The relationship between variance and standard deviation is that the standard deviation(s) is the square root of the variance s2. 10. Standard deviation equals zero when there is no spread, that only happens when all observations have the same value. 11. Exploratory Analysis The purpose of this project is to introduce a possible approach and solution to address inequality in the United States public education system. As such, it presents evidence to support the claim that academic outcomes improve when children participate in school–readiness programs prior to entering primary education. Moreover, the emphasis of this project is to present the process for an exploratory analysis using the constructionist approach and basic framework of the social problem process by Joel Best (2008, pp. 33–40). First, it introduces the claim that educational outcomes are dependent on socioeconomic status, advocates for compulsory early childhood education, and proposes the Initiatory Public Education Policy. The process by which this will occur is through resource mobilization – "acquiring the things necessary to function as an organization and carry out social movement activities" (Massey, 2016, p. 160). Specifically as it relates to this project, mobilizing researchers, parents, educators and legislators build the human capital structure necessary to advocate and execute policy change. Indeed, the goal of policy implementation is to formulate the policy through amending current legislation, or creating new legislation for mandatory and compulsory Pre–K education which leads to the ultimate desired outcome of achieving results – thereupon, providing Pre–K public education accessible by all Socioeconomic Status classes and setting all students up for success from the start of their academic ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Exploratory Essay Exploratory Essay: Library Administration and Management In library settings, the manager or administrator position is a prevalent position within the profession (Mackenzie & Smith, 2009). This exploratory essay will examine the current education requirements, skills, competencies, knowledge, experience, technical skills, and salaries of managers and administrators working in public libraries. Educational Requirements While the MLIS degree is widely accepted as the standard degree for library professionals, the requirement for employment can vary. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook (2014) lists a master's degree as the required entry–level education for librarians. However, according to the American Library Association...show more content... The study identified these competencies as being: enthusiasm, demonstrating leadership, delegation, accountability, planning, integrity, risk taking, credibility, resource management, creativity, customer service, interpersonal skills, communication skills, flexibility, vision, political understanding, maturity, problem solving, and advocacy skills. In 2008, the ALA developed a set of Core Competencies for LIS professionals, and included five competencies regarding administration and management. These competencies include: budgeting, human resources, assessment and evaluation of library services, developing community partnerships, and transformational leadership. The word "transformational" was chosen in reference to the changing nature of libraries; it was meant to indicate that libraries need leaders who are able to guide them through times of rapid change (Hicks & Given, ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

Qualitative Exploratory Essay This study was a qualitative descriptive exploratory study, which Grove, Burns and Gray (2013, p. 27) define as being of use when researchers seek to understand a problem by describing it and promoting further understanding. Qualitative research aims to investigate a phenomenon or analyse perspectives, this method often utilises a smaller study population but yields data rich in human experience (Schira, 2009, p.77–78). An example of this qualitative paradigm is the researcher's use of interviews as a data collection method, and smaller sample size. Interviews were utilised for the data collection, as Addo (2013, p. 197) says that these can aid researchers in exploring the participant's experience with the phenomenon of interest. Those who oppose it do not necessarily oppose mosques in America, since there are over 23,000 of them. Rather, they oppose it being near a location where Islamic terrorists attacked America nine years ago on 9/11. Many Muslim–Americans, such as Raheel Raza, say building this mosque would be a slap in the face to America. Also, there are a lot of mysteries behind this mosque such as where the funding is going to come from. Rauf has said he is going to release where all the funds are coming from, but has yet to even after many requests. Many are led to believe that Radical Extremists are providing funds, and the Park51 group has neither confirmed nor denied these allegations. The biggest person opposing this project is Newt Gingrich. He is quoted on the record many times saying this building is going to be looked at as a victory mosque for the terrorists. The people opposing this project have compared this situation to that of when the Catholic nuns built a convent in Auschwitz to honor those who were killed, and had no intentions other than peaceful ones, just like the Park51 leaders. The Jewish community became very hostile and started protesting and causing riots. When Pope John Paul heard about this aggression, he asked the nuns to vacate the land to maintain peace. Exploratory Research Approach Research Design/Approach/Method The research design was clearly identified as "a cross–sectional descriptive exploratory" study (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The design chosen for this study was appropriate but did employ the limitation that the results between each year of students could not be compared within the program. The independent variables were identified as the following: "demographic data (age, relationship status, year in program) [and] quality of life indicators (satisfaction with sleep and leisure activities)" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The dependent variables for the study were the depression, stress, and anxiety levels experienced by the students (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The sample size for this study was on the larger size; "437 useable surveys" were collected (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016) which provides a more clarity on how depression affects nursing students rather than if the sample size was smaller. Research assistants were hired to interpret the levels of depression the nursing students were experiencing by entering the data into the "SPSS version 18 software program" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). By using the software program, the sample mean from this study was compared with "means in a normative sample" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). Exploratory Questions 1) You are in the midst of the first interview with Mr. K., a recently divorced 55–year–old man. You have introduced yourself and have addressed the other aspects of the beginning phase of practice. You are now ready for an initial exploratory question. At this point, you know only that Mr. K.'s concern relates in some way to the divorce. Therefore, you want to encourage him to explore that topic in depth. Write the words you would say in asking this first question. Once written, specify whether the question is open– or closed–ended. Outline your rationale for choosing this particular question and anticipate how Mr. K. might respond. Mr. K can you please describe your relationship with you ex wife to me please? Mr. K please describe your thoughts about for your future plans? The question that I selected was open ended. My question is opened ended because I am asking my client to explore something. My rational for choosing this question was because I did not want to come off as blaming Mr. K for anything. The test was very clear about that. The Purpose of Exploratory Research Exploratory Research The Purpose of Exploratory Research: Good Research Questions Years ago, before the advent of CAT scanners and other noninvasive medical diagnostic procedures, doctors who were stumped about a patient's symptoms might recommend "exploratory surgery." With little to go on but vague descriptions of symptoms, physicians would "open up" a patient to look around and see what needed fixing. In market research, exploratory research plays a similar role. Marketers have no machines to peer inside a decision problem, so they may use certain research techniques to "open up" the problem and look around. Researchers use these techniques, which they refer to collectively as exploratory research, with a single broad purpose: clarify...show more content... Generally, exploratory research techniques simply involve conversations between a researcher and the people being studied. Although the researcher may guide the conversation across certain issues, the questioning is usually informal and semistructured. Thus, the data produced by qualitative research is textual. That is, the research produces a "text." Although the text is analyzed, the methods of analyses are not statistical; textual data are not numerical and do not lend themselves to statistical analysis. This limitation is important. Researchers and decision makers alike often wish to generalize the conclusions of their research from their samples to some larger population of interest. Textual data do not permit this kind of generalization. On the other hand, assuming other conditions are met, quantitative data may be generalized from a sample to a larger population. Making these generalizations and calculating the margins of error inherent in them requires that the data be numerical. Generally speaking, research procedures such as surveys and experimentation (often called confirmatory and causal research, respectively) produce the quantitative data needed for such analyses. Thus, these two categories of research clearly rely on one another. That is, asking the right questions of the right people in the right way to produce generalizable statistical results requires knowing what to ask, who to ask, and how to ask. These facets of research are often ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Examples Of Exploratory Essay Exploratory Essay How we are viewed to the outside world plays a part in who we we are as individuals, it becomes apart of our identity. No matter how much we try to deny it, how others view us impact how we view ourselves. To the outside world I am just viewed as a Caucasian female, but in reality I am a Mexican American. Throughout the years I have just started to identify as being Caucasian because that is just what everyone assumes, now my case is mild. The Auburn Prison Experiment only made matters worse, the inmates were even identified by what crime they committed. (Mauer) Prisons took away their identity, they were viewed as the lesser. Now, in modern day the punishments are not as strict, but they still leave their scars on the individual. Incarceration rates have started to lower in the 20th century, which would cause many to believe that we are fixing this wrong stereotype but instead we have moved to other forms of punishments.
